Hi I have SD plus rosacea on my face, and was wondering what a good treatment for SD would be. I tried all the topicals posible with no results. Is oral anti-fungal effective at all? Can anyone who tried oral medication for SD give me some advice. Thanks.

Jean

I also have SD and have had luck with Oregano
Oil. I take five drops under the tongue (it stings!)
each day. It seems to control the sebum production
on my face, which the yeast (SD) feed on. I also
severely limit my sugar intake, including fruit.

Most topical SD treatments, in my experience, are
too harsh for the underlying Rosacea to tolerate.

Hope this helps you,
Beth

How long have you been taking Oil of Oregano? I started but stopped.. it was gross. Did you mix it with anything to make it taste better?

And what brand have you been using?

Hi Beth

Thanks for you reply. Unfortuneatly I have already tried oil of regano. I used it the same way you did but without any results.

Jean,

Sorry to hear the Oregano didn't work for you.

Red Hot Canuck,

I use the brand carrying the name of my
hometown healthfood store here in NYS.
I've been using it for about three weeks.
I noticed the results pretty much immediately.

I am quite pale most of the time while using
it. I gather it must have pretty potent
anti-inflammatory properties, at least for
some. The only type of redness/flushing
it doesn't tame is the type associated with
the hormonal fluctuations of a woman in
her 40s, but then you don't have to worry
about that, thank goodness ;)

Greetings,

I'm new to this group but not to seb derm and rosacea. Like many of you I've tried most everything ----topical & oral meds, shampoos, numerous skincare products, and many supplements-----including oil of oregano. Unfortunately, it did not do anything for me but I'm glad it works for others. Sometimes I think about giving it another try but I've already tried it for 3 months. The brand I tried was called "Oreganol" by the North American Herb & Spice Company ( blue & yellow bottle about $25 or so, available in most healthfood stores & online) I couldn't stand putting it under my tongue, so I added several drops to tomato juice and it was much easier to stomach.

Murasaki,

This is just my opinion, but if I were you I'd
try the Oregano Oil again, without the tomato
juice.

I know it isn't pleasant, but I find the "bite"
doesn't last more than two minutes. Dr. Nase
said it should be kept under the tongue (not
swallowed) for ten minutes.

I wonder if cutting it or diluting it with tomato
juice or anything else alters the chemistry.

Just some food for thought.

Beth,

I may give it another try. I also wondered if maybe the tomato juice was just too acidic. I only tried the tomato juice after taking it with orange juice (yuck!).

Thanks for the advice.

Hi Jean, The best treatment that I have found for SD is Desowen cream or Hytone lotion. You need a presription for both. And as you know Dr. Nase doesn't recommend these type products. I use it sparingly and only on problem spots as needed.

Good luck to you.

What is the mechanism here?

I do think that high sugar/carb intake and saturated fat/trans fats or lots of fat in general and dairy products will increase DHT and thereby sebum.

The other things I know CAN reduce sebum is low dose ACCUTANE.
There was also a study that found that the asthma medication Zileuton reduces sebum comparable to low dose accutane. I will ask my derm to try this, since it has far less side effects than accutane.

What I know can POSSIBLY reduce sebum is Boswellia and PAntothenic acid (B5 vit).

Dermadoctor has a cream called Calm, Cool and Corrected, and in tests this cream has reduced DHT levels by 63 %. I a using it now. Early yet, but it is the best cream for me so far. Better than Cutanix even.
But I have not concluded anything. And it is a bit expensive.

I know you are trying to help Bonnie, but please everyone, do not use these gels. They are both topical steroids(hydrocortisone) which will just exacerbate the sd and rosacea. And yes, they do work temporarily on problem areas.

www.dermatitis-ltd.com
same company as www.rosacea-ltd.com

I am bout to give this product a try, I think it will be good for those like me who have rosacea and seb derm, but cant put the typical seb derm treatments on my face..I hope this treatment will knock out two birds with one stone, helping the rosacea at the same time.. look at the testimonials on the site..

Keep us posted on the outcome.

I looked, but didn't locate the testimonials. Under what link were they?

you click the "web assured" link on the right side of their main page to read the testimonials.. I dont think they are even gonna send the darn product out though being that I sent it back a while ago, never really tried it or stuck with it. I think it might be a good solution for me being that my seb derm flares pretty bad, worse than the rosacea sometimes and often what treats the seb derm flares up the rosacea, and what works for the rosacea flares the seb derm. BUT I think this treatment might treat both successfully at the same time, we shall see!!
