I'm wondering if any one has any hints they can share about good places/stores to fill prescriptions in the US. I'm going for treatments with Dr. Darm in August for IPL treatment and I know he often prescribes Biaxin after. I'm from Canada and can't fill a US prescription here - I was hoping my doctor would be willing to duplicate the prescription if I brought it to him but he is being his usual uncooperative self when it comes to this condition.
So I'm planning to just fill the prescription before I leave Oregon and hope that my extended medical here will cover it. However I do know that here in Canada that different drug stores and department stores with pharmacies have wildly varying dispensing fees. Is it the same in the US, and if so, does anyone have any good suggestions for where to get a prescription filled?
Any input appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey Diane,
I know many physicians as well as Nurse Prac. in the United States that have free samples of many prescription drugs such as Biaxin. This may be a question to ask Dr. Darm if he knows any such doctors who are understanding enough to give you enough free samples of biaxin for two weeks. There is always the option to order online without a prescription, but I don't think they are 100% reliable or safe for that matter. If I find one such site, I will send it your way. I am not sure about delivery times with such sites and how fast you would need the biaxin. Also, give Dr. Darm a call and tell him your dilemma. Just curious, how many and what kind of treatments are you getting with Dr. Darm and how many days apart are they?
Good Luck,
Ray
BTW, I see that your from Vancouver, BC. I visited my cousin there with my parents 3 years ago. Absolutely beautiful city. One of the many highlights of the trip was that we went to Butchart Gardens which was in Victoria if my memory serves me correctly. Very cool place!!

Hi Ray,
thanks for the info - I appreciate it.
I'm planning to do 6 treatments in two weeks - all full face, 4 with treatments to the ears as well - Mon/Fri/Wed of each week. Planning to keep some notes/journal type info and thought I would post afterward then follow up again 3-4 weeks after treatment for those that are interested. Really hoping I can kick this thing in the you know what!
You're right - Butchart Gardens is in Victoria (I'm about a 2-2.5 hour drive up the Island from there) and it is awesome. In the summer they do fireworks in the garden that are absolutely fantastic.
Thanks again!

Have you tried Wallmart or CVS or Wallgreens. They are always helpful.

I am from Canada currently being treated by Dr. Soldo. Any scriprts he writes for me I simply take them to Wal Mart or Walgreens (any pharmacy really) and have no problems getting them filled. I pay cash(no medical coverage) but I find the prices of drugs cheaper and also cheaper dispensing fees even with the exchange. It is alot easier than taking the script back to your family Dr. to have it signed before a Canadian pharmacy will touch it.It's law) It also saves you from running around post IPL and staying stress free. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jennifer,
that is very good to know. I was hoping my GP would be more helpful as getting the cost covered would be great, but I have about given up on getting much out of him - and your point about getting it filled right away rather than waiting is a good one.

Canada Drugs will accept the prescription of any licensed physician, and then have their Canadian doctor OK it. They have mailed prescription drugs to US citizens in the past, but I don't know if they are doing that any more due to the FDA wanting to protect the US pharmaceutical industry's high prices. However, you are a Canadian citizen, so give them a phone call and explain your dilemma. Maybe they have some advice for you. Canadian prices are much better than US.
