Hi all,

I'm trying to get my severe and painful flushing under controle. I've been on a course of doxycycline for 3 months and all it did was make me more red. Now Periostat, low dosis doxycycline, is adviced to me. I wonder if anyone has experience with it. I have not many papulas, so it's especially for the anti-inflammatory effects. If you're reacting bad to doxy, will the same happen with Periostat?

Thanks, Natalja

Doxycycline or Periostat is not expected to stop the flushing. It helps prevent papules & pustules. I've taken it for months, and it works quite well for me. At the Periostat level, it would be unusual to have any bad side effects, as it does not act as an antibiotic at that level, only an anti-inflammatory. Not sure your worsened flushing was actually caused by doxycycline--could have just been the disease process worsening on its own.
Everyone here is looking to get their flushing under control, but that is not easy. Seems like IPL works best. Did you get Dr. Nase's book? He lists some drugs you can take for flushing, which you might want to try since your flushes are actually painful.

I have been on doxycycline for just over 3 months at 50mg per day. It has really helped to keep my skin clear and I have had no bad reactions to it although I did find it took a few weeks to "kick" in but I am quite happy with it now. I know the same things don't work for everyone so mabey you want to try something different. I had a good response with Tetracycline almost immediately but I could not handle the 4 pills a day and the food/time restrictions however I don't think either of them help with the flushing or redness. Fortunately I seem to be doing better with that as well by avoiding my triggers. Good luck to you!

I don't have acne and flush rarely but do have a lot of facial redness...should this be something I should look into?
I have ocular rosacea as well...
