Hello group,

I am a member of rosacea groups for more than a year but still not officilly diagnosed. I have permanent redness on my cheeks that got worse as years passed, I am having flares due to the triggers mentioned everywhere, but my derm says it's seb derm. However I do blush , flush and I do feel like I have rosacea. How can I diagnose myself, since no derm can diagnose accurately. How can I diminish flares of rosacea from that of seb derm? Redness seems to be more of a problem that flushing.

Need help..

You should probably get a second opinion. Here is my editorial on being misdiagnosed:

Hello Francois.
You know, you could have seb derm alongside rosacea. It is not uncommon. Find a good doctor and get another opinion on this!

Is your skin flaking? That's the best way to tell, IMO. Do you have dandruff?

I have the same complaint. First derm I went to said rosacea. Complaint was splotchy redness here and there on my face that was noticeable after I got out of the shower in the mornings but cleared up within an hour or so. I spent two months on topical (klaron) and tetracycline antibiotics and problem actually seemed to get worse. Got tired of that, saw a 2nd derm who said it was Seb Derm. He took me off oral and topical and put me on shampoo and hyrocortisone topical. Acne has been getting worse since I have been on the seb derm regimen so derm says it may be both.

Brady's article is good--if you have some of those symptoms, you most likely have rosacea. You may need to go to a LOT of dermatologists before getting a rosacea diagnosis, though!

As for the 4 sub-types, I have symptoms in all 4 sub-types, so I don't know that you can categorize rosacea that way. I think categorizing just appeals to the neat & tidy scientist, but rosacea is not neat & tidy.
