Dr. Nase,

First off, I want to thank you for all the help and advice that you've provided over the years; I've religiously read all of your posts on this board (btw, I love this new forum) and that "other" board for the past year. The information you provide is priceless, and I'm hoping you can provide some to me.

My situation: 51, male, moderate rosacea (sometimes worse) that has progressed for the past 10-15 years. My issue is chronic facial redness that is also on my neck - no flushing per se, although occasional papule outbreaks. No pain or burning sensations.

Used topicals (Noritate, Metrogel, Rosac), sodium sulfacetamide, antibiotics (minocycline, azithromycine) all with limited results. So, decided to take the IPL plunge; found a cosmetic surgeon close to home with a Lumenis One - he has a lot of experience with the machine, but not a lot with Rosacea patients; however, during the consult, I felt comfortable and had enough confidence in him to proceed.

My question to you is, is there anything (or things) that I absolutely need to ensure that he does or doesn't do? Areas of concern would be around the filter used (shallower or deeper - is 590 the fail safe, or should 550-570 be used for the redness); # of passes, pulses, joules (should need lower energy with Lumenis One?). Also, can I ensure my beard won't fall out, particularly since he will be treating the neck area? Finally, are antibiotics recommended post-treatment? If so, which, and for how long?

Sorry for the long post Dr. Nase- any help would truly be appreciated. I wish you a speedy recovery

Hello Mike,

I cannot respond on the Lumenis One right now until they fix the software machines because I could be held liable. I also would never want to be the first one treated by a physician for rosacea with this type of IPL.

The cooling heads are still turning off during treatment and people are getting burned so I need to stay away from this topic until things are fixed. I hope you can understand the predicament I am in.

Dr. Nase

thank you for the quick response - I have seen you discuss the software issues on other posts - obviously, I will ensure that this doctor's machine has been fixed before I let him touch me with it. As he is an ultra-busy cosmetic surgeon in North Jersey who specializes in lasers, I would have to hope he has had Lumenis fix this problem - but I won't assume it.

Thanks again for this critical piece of information.

Mike
