Dear Nase,

What is your opinion about these machines and the efficacy on rosacea? I've mild rosacea with main concern of flushing.

Actually, I've posted in another section as follows:
Have anyone of you have had success with either one of the PDL/IPL or both?

I have had 3 Medilux IPLs one month apart with no result. Then, my derm switched me to the Cynosure PDL for 2 treatments 2 weeks apart. I've just had the last (5th) tx last Saturday. She said that PDL is more powerful & might work for me. I'm skeptical but I tried!!

Honestly, I don't see significant improvement whether the redness, flushing or even skin tone & pore sizes!!

After all these treatments, I didn't swell at all (except the last one I have few bruise spots), I did have redness but it subsided within an hour after treatment. Is this normal? I see from other members that they have quite significant side effects for few days. So, does it mean my derm is not aggressive enough?

My derm suggested me to have a consultation one month after, she's not suggesting another treatment. Do it mean I'm IPL/PDL resistant?

I've mild rosacea with major concern of flushing. Little pap and general pinkness over cheeks & nose.

Besides, one interesting thing: I always tried to induce a flush before my treatment. I drank hot chocolate & hot soup & walk to my ferm's office under hot weather. BUT by the tiime I arrive at the office, NO Flush!! It's difficult to INTENTIONALLY inducing a flush!!! Do you have the same experience??

Any input is HIGHLY appreciated. In particular, should I continue treatment with these machines?

That is the funniest/most frustrating thing about trying to induce a flush for an appointment -- sometimes you cant and thats why you need to see doctors who have prescription strength topical dilators.

The PDL/IPL is less for redness/flushing and more for lumpy bumpy skin.

Cynosure is actually a very good laser for rosacea sufferers. Much better than Candela.

Do you know if your doctor has both Cynosure heads -- the 585 nm and 595 nm? If so, this is analagous to treating patients with multiwavelength Photoderm.

Dr. Nase,

I'm not sure. But the machine is Cynosure Photogenic V-Star. And, I could feel during my treatment she has used 2 different settings. At first, the pulse is slower as the head stayed on one spot for longer time and pain more intense. After she has done this for the whole face several times, she then switched to some settings (maybe what you've mentioned change of head). The pulse is much more faster and less painful. The doctor also said about these before she started the 2nd setting. Do you have an idea of which head she used first for my tx based on my description?

I'll ask her in my next consultation which is schedule on 18/7/05 about this. Assume she did used the 595nm, is it enough targeting the deeper vessel. I've read you book and it seems tha 595nm is quite superficial. It's now 2 weeks after my last 5 series of IPL/PDL tx. But I still flushed a bit late afternoon and where it's really warm/hot.

I'm SO glad you said Cynosure is good because at least I know I was not throwing my $$ into rubbish bin!!
