The only one I feel sure about is Grape Seed extract. Maybe Green Tea also. I think I've heard Dr Nase say flax and vit C are fine to continue, and he just said on another thread that Alpha Lipoic Acid was too.

You do not have to stop Oral Alpha Lipoic Acid for IPL.

why do you stop grape seed?

You stop grape seed because it heals veins. IPL destroys them (this is a good thing). To immediately take something to heal the veins that you are trying to destroy (by photocoagulation) would be counterproductive. You want to wait 14 days after an IPL tx for it to do its work before you start taking supplements that heal. It takes 14 days (I am pretty sure this is the number of days) for the veins that were zapped to be gone for good.

I'm not sure, but isn't it from day 7 to 21 after an IPL treatment that angiogenesis is likely to happen? Wouldn't you NOT want to take those things for 21 days? Anybody know?

Also, stop pycnogenol and vitamin E.

Okay, so if the above is correct and we should stay off certain "healing" suppements for a decent period after tx so as to ensure the veins we want to die do collapse, does that mean we should also not be using the all-red LED lamp post tx too, since my understanding is that this too has a "healing" effect on the skin??

I think this is where you need Peter. Is he still around?

This is an interesting question that a number of people have addressed in the threads on low level light treatment. Some people seem to adivse caution post IPL/laser whereas others use it straight away and seem to like the healing that occurs.

With regards grape seed extract and pygenerol they should be stopped at least a week before treatment and at least 10-14 days after treatment.

With regard ALA I'm not so clued up on but I guess that if it has no effect on blood vessels then there is no need to stop taking it, ofcourse if you want to be sure then just stop it for a few days before and after treatment.

The quicker you can calm post-IPL inflammation the better, I think.
Inflammation attracts blood. Blood (gratuitous blood) may prompt the growth of new vessels.

The feeling is that RLT is a very able anti-inflammatory. If RLT does not cause you to flush, using it straight IPL could well be very beneficial.

I think any drug/supplement that has an effect on blood and the vessels shuld be stopped at least 7 days prior and after. For instance any type of blood thinners which includes aspirin, EFA's (fish oils, flax ect...) grape seed extract, curcumin, excessive garlic and even high dose vitamin c and I'm sure much more. I remember hearing that ALA was included in this list but I can't tell you why.

The best thing to do would be to learn the mechanism of all the supplements/medication you are taking and make your decisions based on that info. Talk to your doctor too. Not so easy to do I know.
