I take all the usual supps: flax, grapeseed, vit C, and was getting about 50mg of ALA in an anti-oxident formula, but after reading Dr Nase's recent post about its unique benefits and his suggested dose of 200-300mg I think it was I ramped it up to a total of 250mg a day. I'm not yet prepared to put the improvement in my skin down to this as it will take more time of observation, but it's the only new thing I've been doing and I do see a positive difference. Anyone else noticed this with ALA?

I don't know about that. I don't take it in relation to fish oil or fish, but as a stand alone supplement.

ALA is a strong anti oxidant (R-ALA is even better). I got some, but haven't used it yet. I sure will use it now. Thanks for the tip. :)
Another thing (maybe not too intersting for everybody...), ALA/R-ALA increase the insulin sensitivity in both muscle and fat cells. It's not working selective and increases it in just muscle cells, as the commersial often says.

Hey B,
Yes I too am a big fan of Alpha Lipoic Acid. This was the last supplement that I added to my wardrobe and I take 500mg a day. I have seen an improvement since taking it but of course it is hard to quantify, especially if you are taking a multi pronged approach.
My other supplements include Ester C, Grape seed Extract, Zinc Gluconate, Flax/Borage Oil and Vit E.

Wasn't ALA part of the breakdown of fish oil?
No, that "ALA" is alfa linolenic acid.
Many supplements contain that ALA, and they claim to have the same effects as omega 3 (EPA/DHA). That's not true. Humans are really suckie (excuse my english  ) to convert this to EPA/DHA.
So: Buy real fish oil, guys. 8)

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the tip but I think I'll stick with what works for me. I can't recall ever advising you personally about the copper gluconate however. It may have been someone else. Hope it is working for you.
Also I think you may have got confused with your ALAs as I believe that the original subject matter posted by B was concerning Alpha Lipoic Acid, a supplement that Dr Nase has favourably advocated.

I've been taking it quite some time, as part of my "anti-aging" regimen. I subscribe to the magazine "Life Extension", which has had a lot of articles recommending it. Some of you might like to check out their website: http://www.lef.org . They have a lot of scientific articles about supplements. However, I don't see that it has helped my rosacea one iota.

I started this when I was at my worst and the improvement was very noticiable - my naturopath immediately asked me what I had added to my regime.
