I believe sun damage played a big role in my development of rosacea, I first ate a course of antibiotics (doxycycline) and got a little bit burned every now and then. Then later on in the summer i got a pretty bad sunburn. From this on my face has never been the same.
Now to the question. I have tried numerous of treatments, most have failed totally, som have helped just a tiny bit. But now i want to get laser treatments and i am wondering: would i benefit from this? and which laser would be best for me? As i said i think i got this crap from the sun (if that's possible) so i want to know if laser helps if you have gotten this from the sun and not genetically, as no one in my family got this.
And one more thing also, sometimes when i flush or just getting warm my whole chest turns blotchy red. Sometimes my chest is even redder than my face. The strange thing is that i did never get a sunburn on my chest...but hm, maybe this crap have spread from the face to chest in some crazy way? anyway, im confused.

Hello guys. Same here for me. One bad sunburn and all hell broke loose.
Lakan, unfortunately, from what I understand, all of us who have rosacea have the bad gene(genes), we all have a genetic predisposition for it. So, burning your face was the insult that turned your rosacea on.
Best regards,
Adrian.

Good comment Aydus.
We all have the genetic predisposition. Whether the condition becomes full blown depends on if it is a dominant or recessive trait and cumulative/harsh insults.
One major burn could be that one insult that turns the beast's genes on.
On the other hand, one major glycolic acid peel turns on the beast in many.
So, there are many switches, but at the molecular level, there are probably only a few fautly genes. This is where the cure lies.

Im currently researching in genetics and the number of times I wish I could fish into my little chromosomes and switch a few bases around :).....now that would be a cool party trick

Thank all of you for your answers. I understand a little bit more of this now hehe.
But i would still like to know the best possible treatment. Or maybe the treatment doesn't have anything to do with how you got you rosacea? is it the same for all type of rosacea?
/Thanks.
Perhaps the best treatment differs depending on yr subtype.
I suffer from flushing only, bought on by a severe case of sunburn that lasted two weeks when i was 18. i am one of those strange people who can stay pale during aerobics when everyone else is puce but in a hot room or when i used to drink i would get very red while everyone else would be normal coloured.
I don't understand the triggers behind this disorder as yesterday i was out cycling around 20 miles in 26 degree heat with SPF 30 on and fully expected my face to be on fire later on...nothing! Other times i can have a very relaxing, nothingy type day and have a red face come 6pm. its madness, but since my hynotherapy session i am much more relaxed about the whole thing.
Personally i believe lasers is the treatment of choice for this subtype having read enough info over the years. So thats the route i have chosen for my treatment plan.

Sally_ann, your case sounds pretty similar to mine when it comes to the flushing. I don't really understand the tiggers. A couple of months ago i was at a concert and i was nervous before the concert started because i was so sure i would get the worst flush. Then when it started nothing happened, my face only got a little bit wet from sweating, but no flushing and now burning sensation. I find it pretty strange that somedays i can't even be in a hot room for more than 10 minutes before i get a flush from hell but i managed to stay alright during a 2 hour warm concert crowded with people..hmm strange.
I have a bit of permanent redness also and my skin feels uncomfortable more or less pretty much 24/7.
Btw, have you done any lasertreatments, or are you going to do them?

Sally Ann,
The only thing I ask on this forum is that we become Americanized.
You were cycling in 26 degree heat. Add a conversion factor for all us lazy Americans because it sounds as if you were cycling in snow.
This Aussie thing is really starting to affect my writing. And use your "z's" and "s's" in the right place.
I hope we dont have to have this discussion againz. :x
