Is this drug available? Has anyone looked into it? I thought I remember some pretty good hype about it on RS.

I researched this medication a long time ago...it's supposedly amazing and similar to Accutane in results.
It's not available in Canada. :(

I dont think Boswellia has the same effect. It seems Zileuton is as affective as low dose accutane, and this can not said about Boswellia. Boswellia May work through the same mechanisms, but it is not as effective I dont think.
I am saying this because I have been on Boswellia for 6 weeks, and it does not compare with accutane.

what i've read both zileuton as well as boswellia (serrata) block same enzyme.
in contrast to zileuton there are not many studies on boswellia (or i haven't been able to find those). maybe it's a matter of dose? i've tried boswellia and it had showed light antiinflammation effect for me. (similar to cox-2 inhibitors i've tried). i couldn't get any information on how much boswellia matches one zileuton pill - maybe it needs more to show same actions?
i also wonder if zileuton really can be compared to accutane? both have antiinflammatory actions, but that would e.g. also be true for antibiotics...
i know there have been some reports, but i'm a bit sceptical till i see more:)

I agree, considering that Zileuton hasn't really been studied that much in terms of treating Rosacea symptoms and oiliness. Dr. Nase mentioned it as a possible new treatment months ago - and that was based on a single study I believe (?).
Accutane has been through the works in terms of #'s of studies on these two topics. Until Zileuton has been looked at more, I'd definately go the low dosage Accutane route.
Zileuton and Boswellia may act on the same enzyme, but what does that mean to us? Obviously there's more involved.

Zileuton, an oral 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor, directly
reduces sebum production.

BACKGROUND: Zileuton, a 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor,
reduces the number of inflammatory lesions in moderate
acne and inhibits the synthesis of sebaceous lipids.
OBJECTIVE: To detect whether zileuton directly reduces
sebum synthesis. METHODS: A 40-year-old female with
mild disseminated sebaceous gland hyperplasia and
seborrhea was treated with zileuton 4 x 600 mg/day
over 2 weeks, was followed-up for 6 weeks after
discontinuation of zileuton and was re-treated with
low-dose isotretinoin 10 mg/2nd day over 5 weeks.
Casual skin surface lipids and sebum synthesis were
determined. RESULTS: Under treatment with zileuton
increased casual skin surface lipids were normalized
and synthesis of facial sebum was decreased. Six weeks
after discontinuation of treatment casual skin surface
lipids were increased again and synthesis of sebum
returned to baseline. Subsequent low-dose isotretinoin
treatment led to similar changes of casual skin
surface lipids and sebum synthesis with zileuton
already after 2 weeks. CONCLUSION: Zileuton directly
inhibits sebum synthesis in a transient manner with a
potency similar to low-dose isotretinoin at least in
our patient.

I dont think it is harful to try it, since the side effects does not compare to accutane.

I see that this drug is not in sales any longer.
Is this the only asthma med drug that excerts such an effect on sebum, or will drugs like Singulair do the same? These have again less side effects than Zileuton.
But what kind of Boswellia dosage do you assume would be needed to get the optimum effect of what Boswellia can give?? I am taking 400 mg * 3 pr day.
