Hi Lycaon,

First, i had very mild gynecomastia as an early teen. I noticed a few kids at my school who did, the typical swollen nipple affair. This faded with time. I think alot of kids get this to a degree during early teens - for the lucky ones it disappears before they notice!

But on an entirely different note, where are you from in Birmingham? I live near Stafford funnily enough, but I used to work in Brum + have some family there.

Marc 2 hormone related problems dont have to occur together for there to be a hormonal cause for a disease. I just wondered whether others had experienced other hormone probs beside the poss of those with rosacea. BTW gynaecomastia and rosacea could be linked, despite your reports in italian populations. It could be a genetic predisposition for Italian men, not to develop rosacea. In fact if what you say is true, the lack of incidence in Italy and hi instance amogst rosaceans, would be an interesting start point for rosacean based genotypic variation

Its an interesting theory, Id be fascinated to know more.

I think first though it might be worth considering what form of gynecomastia you're comparing.

- True gynecomastia that occurs during puberty and subsides as hormones level out.

- False gynecomastia (basically caused by fatty deposites around the breat area, not hormone related).

- Gynecomastic induced by drug abuse or illness (steroids / testicular cancer).

- True gynecomastia which continues long past puberty and in some case continues to grow.

Its probably the last example that would be of interest. It seems that for these unfortunate individuals hormonal abnormalities cause formation of significant (permanent) breast tissue. If these people tended towards having rosacea (or at least abnormal facial flushing) then you might have a case.
