I've just returned from my visit with a new doc re: IPL / laser treatment. I have mixed feelings about what he told me, and was hoping someone might be able to shed some light. He has successfully treated many rosacea patients over the years, and several of the top derms in the area who are on board with the latest treatment protocols recommend him for IPL / laser treatment. That said...

I was happy to hear that he does induce a flush for those patients that have flushing as their major complaint, he does this not with niacin, but with having them expose themselves to whatever their personal triggers may be, ie. hot beverages, warm environment, he said some even jog on the spot and do sit ups in his office before treatment.

Here's where I'm confused...He said that he's had the best success with the Aurora and uses this machine consistently, even though he has a Vasculight and a Gemini. He said that with his newer Aurora, there's no need to change the filters, that changing the filter is "old technology" and that with the Aurora, one filter covers a spectrum from about 570 to 900, so it reaches all the various depths and there's no need for additional filters. Does this sound right?

Thanks for any help!

The Aurora is IPL with radiofrequency - not the best for treatment of rosacea. It is more for sun damage. I am not sure what Aurora he is talking about if it is "new", but if it has RF it is not the best. I had multiple treatments with the Aurora and was not impressed.

I've read that RF (radio frequency) can cause permanent waffling of the skin by killing off subcutaneous fat cells unevenly. You don't want that! Read the horror stories on the internet about Thermage, which uses RF.
