Hello Everyone!
Dr. Nase and Warren, a heartfelt thanks for setting
up this peaceful and sane environment for us all.
I'm experimenting with the sublingual Oregano Oil.
As anyone who's done this already knows, that 'bite'
can be vicious!
Someone mentioned it's not a good idea, tempting
as it may be, to dilute the process with water or juice.
I've found if I eat a rice cake (or bread for those of you
who can tolerate wheat) right afterwards, it brings
the sting right down.
For just a moment, I feel like a fire-breathing dragon,
but it's not intolerable.
Warm Regards,
Beth

Why not to put in juice or water? I take my hat off to you I think I'll use it as a last resort. I know why they say it kills all known germs, could be a very good toilet cleaner I think!!! but if it does the trick. I wish it was easier to tolerate as it sonds as if it has so many good properties.

I'm on my 3rd day using it. I put 3 drops under my tongue, and then have a glass of ice tea. Will the ice tea have a negative effect on it? I'm not sure.. hope not.
It does have a bite.. I agree

Red Hot Canuck,
I'm not sure whether the iced tea or other
liquid would have a deliterious affect, but
just as with any spicy food, I find that a
drink just spreads the heat around, while
bread or rice will quell it.

My Current Oil of Oregano:
GNC Herbal Plus "Standardized Liquid Oil of Oregano"
-- 2 drops contain 10mg oregano (Origanum vulgare, 6 mg of leaf extract, standardized to 60% carvacrol)
-- Also contains Extra Virgin Olive Oil
I take 3 drops twice a day.. is this a good start?

Great brand and good advice Mike.
The problem with this oil is it should be placed under the tongue and given at least 10 painful minutes to be absorbed sublingually by the large veins under the tongue. If you immediately take water or juice (which wash out the drops or the acidity interferes with the drops) then you are cancelling out this action.
Wish you could just drink it in one nasty gulp but the stomach acid shreds a lot of the important proteins.

Hi Mike,
Any idea if it's possible buying it form a online store? I tried to google for it, but didn't have any luck.

10 mins? Ouch..
Did you mention that adding a little Olive Oil might help with the BITE?
-------
Chris, I checked and I couldn't find it online either. www.gnc.com is the homepage and www.drugstore.com is where you can buy gnc products.. but i don't think they sell the Oil of Oregano.

I buy essential oils from youngliving.com. They are very strict on purity. Oregano oil 15 ml. is US$30.26 (plus shipping charges). They ship internationally.

I bought some Oil of Oregano from http://www.healthy-health.com/site/844294/page/531035 who provide a high quality oil, containing 86.96% Carvacrol (although the web site states 84.54%). Delivery was quick to Australia too, just 5 working days, which is great!
Oh yes, it does have a bight to it indeed! Recommendations from Healthy Health's info sheets that came with the oil is to add it to soups, tomato sauce, stews and salads to hide the taste. "It is strong, so when using it internally, drink one tall glass of water first. The tall glass of water before each use is to rid the liver of dead pathogens detroyed by the Oil of Oregano" They suggest taking 4 drops once a day with water, milk, juice or under the tongue. I wouldn't add more than one drop to be honest! I reckon one drop in a drink, 4 times a day would be easier to take.
Interestingly enough, Rosacea is listed as one of the health issues that it can effectively treat. Whoo hoo!
Oh, btw, there is a difference between an essential oil (*only* for *external* use) and the above product which can be taken internally or used externally. There are other products on the market but this one seemed to have the highest percentage of Carvacrol from the research I did on-line.
Anyone still using it?

Jen,
I am still faithfully using my Oregano Oil, take three drops in the AM and PM under the tongue. I use North American brand which is not as biting as the other brand(s) I have tried. It helps to keep the sebum and seb derm under control for me. It is not a perfect solution, but one that has been beneficial for me from day one. A key point, though: As Dr. Nase indicated back then, and as I discovered through my own experience, ingesting the oil will not have the same effect as the sublingual administration. Apparently, the digestive tract will destroy the proteins that are the key ingredient for us. In fact, when I took the capsule form of it, it actually caused me to break out and flush.

Thanks for that Beth. Yes, I did forget to mention taking it under the tongue. Doh! I believe it gets into the blood stream directly this way?
Not sure that I could do 3 drops under the tongue just yet but will build up to it. Full of enthusiasm when it arrived, I put 4 drops into my lemon/sea salt drink and I was breathing oregano oil all arvo/evening.

How exactly is this stuff supposed to help? Does it work on flushing or general redness?

Hi Muzzle
From the fact sheet I have here it says that it's antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and aniparasitic with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It's rich in minerals, is a natural decongestant, has anti-allergy and antiseptic properties. "It inhibits the growth of the majority of bacteria, something that prescription antibiotics fail to accomplish."
"How it works
Isomeric phenols (primary carvarcol) in oregano oil in dilutions as low as 1/50,000 destroys Candida albicans, the Aspergillus mold, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, Klebsiella, E.coli, Giardia, Pseudomonas and Proteus. Another phenol constituent, thymol, boost the immune system. These compounds also act as free radical scavengers (shield against toxins) this preventing further tissue damage while encouraging healing."
Whew! That was a mouthful! LOL
"Oil of Oregano effectively treats acne, allergies, arthritis, asthma, athlete's foot, constipation, croup, dandruff, diarrhea, digestive disturbances, insect bites, bronchitis, canker sores, colds, flu, earaches, fatigue, gum disease, parasites, headaches, menstrual irregularities, psoriasis, toenail problems, seborrhea, ringworm, rosacea, sinusitis, muscle pain, varicose veins, warts."
It's wicked stuff and so many uses! I've got my boyfriend trying it on his RA as well. I don't think it's that expensive really, considering it is used in small drops. I bought 6 bottles as part of a discount deal (saves on postage to Australia too - we can't get it here easily).
Anyway, this didn't directly answer your question but thought some more info might be helpful.
