My condition is occasional flushes, and periodic outbreaks of pimples in a relatively small patch in the middle of my forehead. Also occasional bumps in one eyelid, and occasional redness on one or both nostrils.

I first noticed this about six years ago (I am 46). The bumps come in outbreaks, and seem to be triggered by sun (I play golf, always wear a brimmed cap, and almost always have sunscreen on). They last about a week and then disappear.

My dermatologist told me it was Rosacea, and that there was little to do about it. She perscibed some vitamins (I preferred that to antibiotics, as I don't want my system building up a tolerance for the anitbiotics) and Nortate cream. Neither of which seemed to do very much.

I spent time reading through many of the threads in the Rosacea Forum, and feel my case is relatively mild, though I feel just as frustrated all the same.

What are the best next steps to take?

Should I go back to the dermatologist, and ask for some better treatment/discussion?

Should I find a new dermatologist?

Are there diet and lifestyle changes I can make?

Can outbreaks be triggered by pets? (We have many dogs in our house).

Thanks for any help you can provide (am at the early stage of an outbreak right now).

Welcome Adubiet,

Have you looked into less irritating soaps, moisturizers, shaving cream and shampoo than the normal brands as a start?

I use all 4 that are fragrance free and for sensitive skin and I've noticed my flare ups are now much less.

If it is Rosacea and your dermatologist did say that there was little that you can do about it, then I would suggest you get a few more opinions.

Btw, you should be wearing sunscreen every day, since our skin is much more sensitive to the elements. There are quite a few out there made just for Rosacea .... I use ZincO Linda Sy.

Mike

Thx, RHC:

Never considered using Sunscreen on a reg basis. And I have been out doing yardwork quite a bit this spring. D-uh.
