I've read that rhinophyma only occurs in those who have severe untreated rosacea of many years duration and is usually in men. Well, I am a woman whose first noticeable rosacea symptoms started February 2004. By August of that year I noticed that the right side of my nose tip, which had become chronically pink and swollen, had suddenly dropped a little bit lower than the left side. It is still like that. The pores on my nose are not that big, though I do have oily skin. I am saving up for IPL treatment and hope to have it this fall, so I have been afraid to take Accutane since I know you are supposed to be off it for 6 months prior.
I am taking 25 mg. doxycycline twice a day to prevent the papules/pustules, but still have flushes nearly every day, mostly on the right side of my face. (I used to get frequent migraines, mostly on the left side of the back of my neck. Does anybody else have this one-sided flushing?) I am wondering how much time I have before this nose tip swelling becomes irreversible, or if it has already occurred and I am doomed. I have been living with the hope that it is reversible without having to resort to rhinoplasty.
