nope. I was recently diagnosed with it. I always thought I just had a case of acne that wouldnt go away and when I went to the doc last year she said it was rocacea and prescribed some ointment which made things worse. SO then I started buying Proactiv acne stuff you see advertised on TV and it actually worked except for when I get really hot and sweaty and then I get breakouts where I sweat. A few weeks ago I decided again to go to the dermotologist and see what a different once says and she said the same thing and prescribed finacea. That was a mistake. Horrible breakout so I'm back on proactiv and face looks much better.

I guess I have weird rosacea. I dont have flushing or anything like that. Just get bumps around my nose crease is the only place and have real oily skin.

How long have you been diagnosed with rosacea?

Might wanna sit down for this...

I was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 11! Could have been 12... but that's beside the point. My derm gave me a couple of creams, which worked wonders! (Wish I knew who that derm was and what she used!) I was in remission until about 5 years ago (I'll be 26 in August... yes I do count down! LOL). Since then, I've been on just about every antibiotic, cream, sulfurcream, and treatment you could name, except for Accutane. i was told about it while I was pregnant, so obviously I couldn't take it. My pregnancy made mine worse. I'm going on my 5th IPL treatment, and it's doing nothing. My next option is Accutane...

here's me. ugh

your picture doesnt look bad. Just looks like you have the flushing part of it. I dont. If I walk outside in the sunshine my nose gets all speckly and then the next day I will have a few of those like sore looking spots. Mine started about 3 yrs ago. I thought it was the glasses that I switched to because they sat on my nose a certain way and thought they were clogging my pores. I've tried Nutregena products, loreal products all sorts of acne products but none have worked on me as well as proactive. I've never tried accutane. I did ask about it when I went to the dermotologist a few weeks ago, but she said that Ididnt really qualify for it because it wasnt that bad. It would if you could find that dermotologist you went to when you were 11 and ge the same medicine, but chances of that are slim, huh?

I love to walk. I work at a university here and love walking on campus after lunch for exercise, but its gotten to the point where I can do that or I'd be in big trouble. Guess I'll have to wait for cool weather again, but the way this year's heat wave has gone it will be a looooong time before that happens. I've also read that even if you do strenous exercise inside it will bother heat related rosacea, so I'm not getting any good exercise in and my waistline is showing it! :(

I have P&P's all over my cheeks and my chin. I'm surprised you can't see them there, but then, I was rather flushed in those pictures. Amazingly, my flushes don't hurt THAT bad, most of the time. It's really heat that makes them HURT! And, with the heat wave here, it sucks to walk outside.

We're getting a treadmill, hopefully this weekend, so I'll be working on that waistline, myself! I had to have three epidural steroid injection in my back, and those suckers really cause you to gain some weight! it sucks! But, I'm hoping to start walking inside, with the fan on full in my face! :-)

I hope your inside exercise works out for you. What do you use for a daily regimen for your skin? Do you wear makeup and if so what kind (brand?)

Hey Kelli,

Who are you having your IPL with?

I'm seeing Dr. Bowers in Southlake.

Right now, I wash my face with water in the morning and at night. No cleansers. Haven't found one that I can afford on a regular basis.

In the morning, I use Nuetrogena moisturizer for sensitive skin. And MOST of the time I remember to put on sunscreen. I'm horibble at forgetting it before I start on my makeup. Once I get to my make up, there's no going back.

At night, I put on Clindagel. That's it.

Makeup - I can't remember, but I'll post it later. I do use a liquid foundation. Not the greatest, but it's working for now. I want to try the Linda Sy tinted stuff. See if that'll work for me instead. I also wear eye makeup, but obviously, no blush. And I stick with a very neutral brownish/gloss lipstick. Just enough to color up, but not to accentuate my red cheeks.

yeah, I'll wait for your later post on the foundation. I use clinique. I use the kind that is not supposed to clog your pores (non comedginic) but sometimes that way overdries my face. I've never been able to use moisturizer, even the good stuff you can buy at department stores. It just breaks my face out. I've been reading stuff on emu oil today. Have you ever tried that?

I use Revlon New Complextion Make up in Ivory Beige. It does alright.

I bought over a $100 worth of Clinique stuff a few years ago... it was crap for me. Horrible! Make up and cleansers.

I haven't done the emu oil thing. I'll have to go read about it.

I've read here where some people tried that bare escentuals mineral make up and liked it. I bought some awhile back and it made my face itch. Seems like the only makeup I can wear is Clinique or Neutrogena. I'm seriously thinking about the emu oil. Since I cant wear any other moisurizer I was thinking about trying it.

Hi Kelly,

I am here in Plano.......do you know of any good dermatologists in
the area ? I have been to 3 or 4 and not satisfied with any of
them. Same old thing.......metrogel, sulfur wash, $2500 of IPL,
minocycline. None of them seem to know anything about rosacea and
all spend less then 2 minutes with you per visit. Thanks.

Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,

I'm going to one over in Southlake. She's not on my insurance, and I wasn't very happy at first, but she has really pushed through this with me. Actually, if you search through, you'll see my trials and tribulations.

Her name is Dr. Angela Bowers. Here's her number: 817-251-6500

She is difficult to get in to see. I first saw her other Dr. (Aranda). She wasn't bad, but seems new. And Dr. Bowers doesn't have a WHOLE lot of experience with rosacea, I believe, but she is willing to listen.

Hope that helps!
Kelli

Does anyone know of a good dermatologist in Houston that specializes in Rosacea? My current dermatologist will only spend about 2 minutes on the topic and write a script for Metrogel 1% and Doxy. She said this is about the only treatment (except lasers for the redness) and seemed to dismiss my questions. I don't know if this is just a "mundane" topic for dermatologists, if she does not know much about the condition, or if she just has really bad bedside manner. Any connections with a good rosacea specialist would be greatly appreciated...

A little about me...

My face started getting red (flushing) about 5 years ago (although first noticed "red" on my chin in my wedding photos 10 years ago. I did not pay much attention to it, but it progressively got worse over time. Coffee/cokes really set of the flushing. I also had some very minor pustules (randomly). Last summer, 2005, I did some yard work and had a major breakout (pustules) over my cheeks and forehead. But it cleared up in about 2 days. I went a dermatologist (diff than referenced above) and he dismissed it, saying it did not sound like a major problem and to come back if it happend again (I did not like him). Since then, it seems that I became more sensitive to heat. I cannot go to the beach or pool, or do any yardwork without a major breakout. I am very active outdoors and love to take my daughter to the beach and pool. I am very concerned that I will not be able to enjoy the "fun things in life" if I cannot get control of my rosacea.

I have a long family history of skin problems. Mom, Dad and maternal grandmother, and uncle all have Rosacea. But they did not get it until later in life (>50). Also, brother has psoriasis (bad).

I just started the Metrogel 2 weeks ago and started the Doxy today (7/24). Hopefully this works. I had a major breakout on Sat after some yardwork and it has not gone away.

Thanks
V

I live in Fort Worth. I currently go to Dr. Cothern, and all he did was give me a prescription for Oracea (when I don't even have any P&P) and metrogel.

So I don't think he really knows anything about rosacea.

Unfortuantely, that goes for saying with many derms. Once you find the right one though, it's a blessing :)

I can't even find anything about it online except on Dr. Nase's website saying it exists.
