This is common with starting isotretinoin. Expect about 6 weeks to get used to the medication.
The best option would be to go for a lower dose, say 10mg every 2 days for a few weeks and then decide about increasing/decreasing/stopping your dose.

Very common first few weeks reaction because the accutane shrinks the glands from the bottom up -- truly pushing up everything that has been illegaly stored in the glands.

You should be careful about the sun, but if you wear sunscreen above 20 SPF you should never have a problem. I was on accutane, using SPF 8 in Hawaii for 17 days. No problem.

So it's like squeezing toothpaste from the bottom of the tube, right? Does it actually clear and correct the glands?

The glands have been unhappily stretched, so to speak, by the illegaly stored oil and sebum residing there?

Sounds like a correction of the oil glands, right?

Learning every day....

Things seem to be getting better oil no longer poors out of my skin and some of the redness is gone no more bumps on my nose. However since I have been takeing accutane some of the poors on my nose are getting larger and I seem to sweat more on my face.

Is 10mg of accutane a day the norm for most of everyone out there. I am going to get perscribed in a couple days and was what wondering what people have had success with. Some say 10mg while another person is seeing a decrese in redness on 40mg a day which seems high to me. Thanks

rob, I think that a low dose of accutane say 10 mgs lessons the chance of some side effects it may take longer to work but it is worth it it has been a blessing for me. good luck

Do you feel oil caused you redness as well? Also did the oil make you more uncomfortable in hot situations? This is what I feel, hopefully the oil stoppage will help greatly!

Hi I dont know if the oil caused redness or not . The oil made me uncomfortable in any situation it was so nasty and when I was outside in the heat it looked 10 times worse. Are you on accutane if so how long and how are things.

I have been on accutane for a little longer than a week, the first few days my eyes were having troubles coping with the dryness but it is fine now.

I don't see any significant improvements in both oil or redness -> am hoping to see some good improvement by atleast the end of august.

I also hope my acne heals by that time and no new ones come up!

it's pretty sad, but my life was totally dependant on the effectiveness on IPL (had 3 with good success) but now my life is almost totally dependant on this drug -> hopefully I will acheive similar results.

Good luck.
Accutane is bound to finish your acne, and most likely your sebum production will go down too.
Fingers crossed X

Hey domo,

The fct that accutane helps with oil and acne on the side are just two extra plusses. Redness is my main concern.
