Hi guys,

Good to see this new forum up and running. As some of you have heard me say no one in Aust appears to have the Lumenis One yet so I've been on the hunt for a new Dr for another round of tx. I've found a Dr who sounds promising and uses a Genesis Laser (coolglide vantage/excel). It sounds good but I'm wondering if any of the experts here can confirm it's a good fit for me. I flush some, have diffuse central pinkness more often than not but not super red unless flushing badly, I get plenty of papuals, and have some big, deep tenangensia, plus I have ocular rosacea. My skin is best after my period and worst before it so I suspect it's to some degree hormonally triggered. This doc says the Genesis can deal with the diffuse redness and superficial vessels as well as the deeper ones (the photoderm on its own didn't get to those at all). So, do you guys think this is my best option? The only other decent option I have is super expensive clinic that I can't afford that uses IPL, Yag, and sometimes Verapulse. Due to money I'd rather go with the Genesis if it'll do the job, but if not I'll try to find the money to go with the other. Appreciate any input before I cough up yet another few thousand.

Cheers, B

Hey Bihi,

Great to see you here. If it is the Genesis 1064 YAG by Cutera then it is a great machine. The doc has to know how to use it because in one mode it can treat the deep vessels and in another mode it can treat superficial vessels.

For you description, low fluence, short pulse duration and repeated passing or what the laser gurus call "laser painting" shoudl be used. Keep us informed. Big fan of Genesis.

Thanks a lot for that Dr Nase -- good to get confirmation. This guy seems to really know his machine and I was told by another doctor that he is THE expert in Genesis and knows everything there is to know. My only reservation has been in my confusion around the machines, of not quite understanding the different benefits of Genesis Vs IPL or the different Genesis types that get mentioned. I don't know who the machine is manufactured by but on their website they refer to it as Coolglide Vantage Laser when applied for hair removal, Coolglide Excel Laser when optimised for vascular treatments, and Laser Genesis when optimised for skin rejuvenation with settings that deal with background redness, blotchiness, and smaller dilated capillaries. I think I'll give it a shot though -- I got a very positive impression of the Dr from my conversation with him, and given some of the experiences I've had at pre-tx consultations to date, that's a big step in the right direction.
