Having an avatar allows other people to recognise you and your posts, If you are a regular poster then it is a good idea to get an avater (and don't change it regulary).

This is all new to me. I went to a website called Gravatar, submitted my picture, and had it G-rated. They gave me this URL: www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?
gravatar_id=(a bunch of numbers here)
I cut and pasted the whole thing in. No luck. Then I tried the top line alone, and the bottom line alone. I keep getting that the file contains no data. What am I doing wrong? The website doesn't really give any instructions. I used the same email address on Gravatar as I am using for this forum.

Irish,
Just select a photo that you like from your collection, custom size it to 60 by 60 pixels, then save it.
Open your profile, page to the bottom and direct your saved picture file to the make avatar screen.

Duh? You're talking to a computer illiterate. I have no idea how to custom size my photo.
Irish if you know how to e-mail a photo to someone then id be happy to customise it for you.
