View Full Version : Triple pass - necessary? Help please

I went in for a BBL consultation yesterday, asking the derm whether she would do multiple passes. She insisted that 3 is too much, likely to cause blistering/bruising, and added that she would rather boost the joules.

This is somewhat contrary to what I have read. Many of you seem to prefer multiple passes, perhaps b/c it's just more bang for your buck. I am getting my neck done as well, which will bump the cost up significantly, so the fewer sessions, the better.

Does anyone have a preference to # of passes? I am concerned that I will not get substantial results unless there is some pain. I had one vbeam this past summer just on my forehead, and it did squat to help. There was no downtime, either, which leads me to believe the session wasn't thorough enough.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

My advise is to go somewhere else. This derm obviously does not have a clue. Any derm who advises raising joules is a danger. Raising joules is exactly what gets you burned. I know this from personal experience. You have to be even more careful with a BBL. It is more poweerful than say a lum one. For instance my settings on a lum one could go as high as 24 joules. On a BBL 18 joules gave me a few blisters. The thinking is that 3 passes can get to veins on different levels. 560 or 590 surface, the 640 then 695. They recommend start with 11 or 12 joules then go up one joule with each treatment. Believe me better to be safe than sorry. I had a free treatment on an upgraded BBL and the rep said 18 was way too high for me. We did one pass (because it was free) at 14 joules and that was fine.
