Any thoughts onit? I bought the banish rosacea book, heck if you say you have the cure Im buying it. I figure I could accidently stumble on whatever may work for me one day in this ongoing struggling quest for normalcy.

One thing it says at the very end is....if all this stuff doesnt work, then try cabbage juice. Apparently worked wonders for an aquiantance of the author so I will buy some today and try drinking that for a while, but I wondered if any already has tried this and if they had success.

I guess it isnt the cure or it would be all over these boards huh?

You got it!

Cabbage and related foods can cause a lot of problems for some people. I can't touch brussel sprouts or coleslaw.

Hi
I once went on something called the "cabbage soup diet" and it did wonders for my rosacea. I could never figure out what had helped, now I wonder if it was the cabbage. If you hate the idea of cabbage juice you might want to try making cabbage soup. I might try it again now that you mention it.

What kind of things were you eating before you tried this, if I may ask? It could have simply been the fact you were eating something healthier. But two things are for sure: going a long time just living off of cabbage is not healthy and if it were the cure you'd see it in scientific literature instead of a rather obscure book.

Hello
Not saying it's a cure, just adding to the conversation since she asked about it. I would never suggest that someone just eat cabbage. The diet is really radical and is only designed to be followed for seven days. The first day you eat only fruit and cabbage soup, the next day vegetables and cabbage soup, etc. By the fourth day or so I looked in the mirror and was like "wow-my skin looks good." I just thought if I added some cabbage soup to my normal diet it may help. My rosacea is primarily related to my digestion, but a lot of people have a different experience. Just wanted to add it since the original poster asked about cabbage specifically.

Well, I certainly don't oppose adding cabbage soup to an already healthy diet. If it worked for you then great! I was just making sure that no one here was starving themselves by sticking to nothing but cabbage in the hopes of it curing rosacea.

Do you still have the recipe?? I'd like to try making this soup, not to live off of by any means but just to incorporate into my diet. Thanks.

Cabbage Soup Recipe

6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 Carrots
1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
half a head of cabbage
1 package Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Here is the recipe. To be honest with you, if I make it now I would skip the V8 juice and tomatoes because tomatoes make me swell really badly. I wanted to give you the original recipe, though, so you can make your own decision.

Hello to all. Normally I just lurk but I felt compelled to post about this.

I've been suffering from rosacea for over 10 years now. My main symptoms are deep flushing (e.g. during exercise and especially, ahem, coitus) and red eyes with thick and inflamed lower eyelids ("red-rimmed eyes" as I once saw Nabokov put it).

About 2 years ago, I was convinced that I had an ulcer. Not wanting to go see a doctor, I read about using cabbage juice as a remedy.

For 10 days straight, I drank a quart of cabbage juice (8 oz. four times a day). I must note that I was eating cleaner than usual (common sense: no candy, soda, fast food, etc.)

On the 10th day, seemingly out of nowhere, I looked at my eyes in the mirror and was amazed to see them so clear, the clearest they had been since junior high (I am 27-years old). My skin looked good (since I wasn't exercising or anything at the time, I wasn't able to see if my flushing was less intense), but my eyes looked even better. Normally I hate looking in the mirror, but now I couldn't resist admiring my eyes.

Unfortunately, I thought to myself, "This probably means my ulcer(s) is gone! Time to celebrate!"

(Back then, I wasn't yet thinking about a rosacea-digestion link.)

I went on to consume alcohol, fried foods, and all sorts of junk for the next few days. By the 4th day, my eyes were back to their usual bloodshot state.

Notes:

* I have attempted to improve my condition using cabbage juice on other occassions. What I observed is that you must be eating pretty clean for it to have an effect. I once tried the cabbage juice while eating a lot of fastfood and I saw no improvements even after 2 weeks.

* Since cabbage juice is not widely available, you will probably have to juice it yourself. Believe me: if you live with others, they will not appreciate the smell.

* Be careful if you consume cabbage juice. Brush your teeth right after if you can. A friend once directly pointed out that my breath smelled like "kim-chi" and he thought it was disgusting. And if you burp..........FORGET ABOUT IT! Might as well tell the whole building to evacuate.

* Once I went on a 3-day cabbage juice fast and my eyes cleared up by the end. However, the introduction of unhealthy food erased all improvement. I tried another cabbage juice fast later on, but this time my eyes seemed to get worse (episcleritis it looked like).

I often wonder if you can reach stable results by drinking cabbage juice for a long enough period (e.g. 1 month?) and by combining it with a wholesome diet.

As others mentioned, cabbage soup might be an easier yet still beneficial addition to one's diet. However, I do realize that some people say they have been advised to avoid eating cabbage.

Bottom line, it helped me. Would I have continued to improve had I kept it up? How much would I have improved? Why does the cabbage help to begin with?

I don't know. My juicer is broken, but perhaps one day I'll buy a new one and try again.

PS Never confirmed whether or not I really did have ulcers. Currently without health insurance.

Hi, just checking back in after thinking of a question.

I have heard about that book. One girl on another site did a review and listed the following stuff that the author recommends:

1. Lysine
2. HCL supplements
3. Omega-3 (avoid Omega-6)
4. Dietary changes (avoid dairy, red meat, soda etc.)
5. Zinc
6. Burdock (still have to try this one, although I bought it)
7. The lovely apple cider vinegar, either internally for stomach acid or topically
8. Eat yogurt/probiotics

I wasn't able to determine what the 2 deficiencies rosaceans suffer from that the author references in his ads.

Nevertheless, I am interested to know what specific details--if any--are given about the cabbage juice.

How much?
How frequently? Duration?
Preparation? (e.g. juice daily or not)

Thanks in advance. If I do get a juicer, I'm happy to share my results here. Chugging that cabbage juice ain't no joke! A little carrot or apple makes it a bit easier (though you don't want it too sugary I'd imagine). In any case, it can't be worse than internal UT.
