Hi All:

I am a bit confused. What is the difference between HCL and digestive enzymes.? My problems with my stomach have gotten worse. I get bloated, gases, burping after having my meals specially at dinner.

I went to the gastrologist and she gave me a few samples of prescription Digex NF to have before my meals. I only have taken 2 on separate days. I didnt get worse it might have helped some what. I searched online for this medicine and the side effects can be bad for me. dryness of the mouth which probably can dry out my eyes too. i suffer from dry eyes so this would not be good. So I want to go natural way. I did ask the gastrologist if HCL would help me she didn't know what i meant never heard of it Betaine Hydrochloride (HCL).

I think the enzymes will help. But I'm not sure which to take if the HCL or buy the Source Naturals Essential Enzymes since i have a store near by. should i take both but i think from what i have read up i shouldn't take both?

Thank you for your comments and help.

Hi Alba,

I'm not an expert on this but here's a little information.

HCL or hydrochloric acid is a supplement to take if you/your Dr. feel your stomach isn't producing enough hydrochloric acid to break down/digest your food. Digestive enzymes are enzymes that help break down specific foods, like lipase (fats), protease (proteins), lactose (milk), etc. You can do a search on the internet and you will find information on both.

PCA here on the forum would be better at providing information. Also Mask and GuyinLA would also be good for feedback. Here is a post regarding digestive enzymes that may be of some help.
