I have been having some digestive issues with certain foods (bad cramping et.) which I am thinking could be due to the low dose antibiotics I have been on.

To help combat this, I am thinking of trying probiotics.

Which Probiotics would you reccomend for digestive issues? (Brands, doses et.)

Also, I stay clear from Dairy and wheat for the most part, but have also read that "Natural Plain Organic Yogurt with live culture" can help rosacea digestion issues. Any thoughts on this from anyone as well?

Thanks

I too have digestive issues from taking long-term antibiotics.

The most effective probiotics I have found are (in no particular order) - home-made natural yoghurt; home-made kefir; and the Custom Probiotics CP-1 (a beast of a probiotic).

Personally, I don't seem to be able to cope with large amounts of probiotics since it brings about a sort of hives reaction (due to histamine, I believe).

None of the probiotics have resolved the GI issues, although they are probably doing some unnoticed good.

Hello

I use Swanson's Ultimarte Probiotic 60 billion microorganisms and Swanson's Full spectrum enzymes

Both are great for me, I don't get the side effects from taking the Solodyn as bad as before. If I feel an upset stomach i take 2 enzymes and feel better.yes:

I take Source Naturals Digestive Enzymes and have taken Natren probiotics. Natren is expensive, but is supposed to be the "gold standard". Other good brands are Udo's Choice and Jarrow.

I had really good results from the combination of the digestive enzyme and the Natren probiotics. I will start taking the probiotics again as soon as I have my baby.

I don't have any advice for the OP since they've already gotten some, but since this is related: for those not on antibiotics (and even if you are) I found a very informative article not too long ago about probiotics - http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=344

It's long, but I found it interesting especially because I didn't know any of that before at all.

The best probiotic I know of that many use when on antibiotics is VSL3.

Hi -

First, I'd talk to your Dr/Derm. about the cramping so that they are aware.

Very often antibiotics cause GI distress and yeast infections - even lower dose ones, like Oracea and Solodyn. To combat this, yes, a good probiotic, one that is encapsulated and requires refridgeration is best. Look for atleast 10 strains of bacteria in the probiotic. I've purchased Nature's Way Optima and Dr. Ohirra's probiotic. They are pricey but very good. Also, you may wish to look into taking a digestive enzyme with your foods. Digestive enzymes help you digest your food better. Often those of us with Rosacea have GI issues to start, and antibiotics complicate the problem. I take Source Naturals Digestive enzymes - one with each meal. Also, I take Milk Thistle (detoxes the liver) and a host of other vitamins that have helped my digestion.

Good luck.
