I just felt like having a little rant about my rosacea mad1:
It decreases my attractiveness and for me it is the worst part because I want to look nice.
I have large green eyes and they could be nice and white and sparkly like other peoples but oh no they have to get bloodshot all the time and look liked I'm stoned or have been crying or am really sick, and the rosacea makes my eyelashes fall out so they are nowhere near as thick as they were, and the frequent feeling of something in my eyes drives me mad, and the dryness and stinging and tearing up.
Same goes for my face, always having to worry about a room being too warm or the sun shining on my face or the wind being too cold, not being allowed to drink and always having to wear makeup to feel normal and the frequent checks in the mirror and the anxiety about looking red and the discomfort of burning skin.
Im tired.
Ok, rant over! laugh:

Hey pinkpunk console:
We all understand how you are feeling and yes it does suck.
I get tired sometimes too. You are not alone sidehug:
Hang in there though.
There is stuff you can do to alleviate your symptoms yes:
Check out the ocular rosacea stickies. Lots of stuff to help your eyes. First and foremost cool compresses to alleviate the redness without chemicals and preserv-free rewetting drops to keep them moist and quiet.
btw there is a new FDA approved treatment for thickening/lengthening eyelashes. Not sure I would recommend it as of now though. I would wait and see what people say about it and it is expensive but something to think about for the future perhaps.
Best wishes,
Melissa

I've been using Mavala eye-lite to keep my lashes from falling out. They aren't much thicker, but I don't have "bald" spots anymore. It doesn't have the ingredient that the new prescription eyelash stuff has, but it's also much cheaper.

It's called Latisse. It stimulates the follicles to make your lashes longer and thicker. It's actually a side affect of a glaucoma drug. Very expensive at about $120 a month - and it's not likely to covered by insurance plans. Oh, and if you stop using it your lashes revert to their former condition.blink:

Isn't it amazing what drugs get FDA approval so quickly blink:
And you can bet that this drug will not be covered by health insurance. Unless you have glaucoma that is and even then it will have a different name.

The drug must have been on the fast track for approval since it is currently a glaucoma treatment. Patients were reporting how long and thick their eyelashes were getting while using it. I don't know how the glaucoma med is administered, but this goes on like an eyeliner. The only negative side effect is a darkening of the eye color which is permanent. I already have dark brown eyes, so it wouldn't bother me, but someone with lighter eyes may not like it.

Well, alphagan is a glaucoma drug that is FDA approved and they are certainly taking their time approving the new formulation for topical application(Col 118- Sansrosa) for facial flushing and erythema yes:
The glaucoma med is administered as an eye drop.

I wonder if the slow approval is because it would have to be covered by insurance? Kind of funny that a cosmetic treatment gets pushed through so fast...

I hate to be so cynical but I do think it has to do with the population they are marketing this drug to. I think they feel they will be more profitable with this. I agree that the fact that people will pay out of pocket for this drug makes it more appealing to the pharmaceutical company.

PUNK,
I feel your pain...Since the ocular symptoms kicked in 2 years ago I look like an extra in a zombie movie!!
Currently using restasis, puntual plugs, preservative free drops, lid scrubs, orecea, flax seed, compresses and lid massages..No improvement. Next up is full dose Minocycline for 6 weeks...
