I know what I eat can affect my skin.
Whenever my face flares up a bit I freak out and start eating really well. By this I mean lots of fresh veg and salads, lots of chicken and oily fish, fewer carbs and no sugary treats or drinks. Then as soon as it improves a bit I feel happy and go back to eating chocolate, heavy carbs etc. even though time and time again I have seen my skin take a turn for the worse after eating junk. It's like I cant help myself... i think 'oh, i'm sure it'll be fine this time' and go for it.
I wonder what my face would be like if i could stick to being healthy all the time!
can anyone relate to this? blink:smile:

Hi hi:
Well I've got quite strange eating habits. I'll veer from eating extremely healthy to extreme junk and it seems to be a cyclical process with me.
I'll maybe start feeling kind of ill and lethargic so I'l decide to eat better..I'll do really well for a week or two, steamed veges, little to no sugar, brown rice etc etc and then for whatever reason I'll slip a little bit, like I'll start having coke or chocolate but still be reasonably healthy and then it seems to descend into me eating lots of takeaways, chocolate, processed food etc and hardly any vegetables or fruit, and then I'll start over again!
In reference to your question I have never noticed an obvious or distinct correlation between what I've been eating and my skin issues, although I have my suspicions about some things.
Part of it is not knowing whether the effect of eating a certain thing would show up in my face immediately, a few days later, or maybe even a week or two later.
Like sometimes when I'm eating really badly, like lots of cola and KFC etc, my skin seems to look really good, but I'm thinking it's because I was eating healthily previously, and my skin is reacting to that prior influx of nutrients and it's kind of coasting on that for a while..if that makes any sense at all!

My thing is spicy food. I love it but it is a guaranteed flare. I eat it anyway.
Instead of giving up what I love I just continue to find way to control the Rosacea. Its been an up and down battle, but progress has been made.
Alcohol is also a guaranteed flare and I gave up on it almost a year ago now. I really miss red wine but I don't crave it. I do crave great curries.

Any long term vague aim is hard to maintain. We eat food for many reasons and being healthy is not always the strongest pull. I think if you become too restrictive then you are bound to get bored, I find it better to just find maybe slightly better bad stuff that still satisfy my need for sugar.
How about Monday-Friday you drink lots of water, eat fairly well and then during the weekend you allow yourself to eat more things that you want.

I find it just about near impossible to wait for my food to cool down before I eat it - a bigger problem at overheated restaurants than at home. Then I usually spend the latter half of the meal chewing on ice cubes til the check is paid laugh:
The ice chewing has in turn caused me to get teased a lot about sexual frustration mad1: lol

No Sparrow it's very hard especially if you have a sweet tooth, and I have to be so strict about carbs to keep mine calm that I just can't do it anymore or I'll end up falling down the drain even though I am being sensible with them it is still not enough.
I get away with nothing, flammin stomach of mine. roll:

LOL That is a classic line laugh:laugh:laugh:
A bit like my sudden desire for deep fried chip shop fish and chips as it's a real winter warming comfort food and I am sick of stupid wee doctor's asking me if I am in pain when I eat fatty foods or do your stools stick to the toilet bowl when you eat fatty foods, when I am pain all the time and no they generally don't stick!. One thing I haven't eaten for years is fried up take away food but I'm dying to try just to see if it will make the gallbladder finally burst so that I can answer 'yes' to the only questions they ask that they see as being related symptoms.mad1:

You not seen the ice-cube scene in the film 91/2 Weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger. Made the ice-cube foreplay thing infamous and the film.

Chenoarae if you are hoping that chewing teasingly on a load of ice cubes is going to drop a hint to the man sitting opposite to you, forget it. I've tried and the only thing they think the ice cubes are for is dropping into a large glass of Scotch.laugh:

LOL! I always wonder that too! It would probably not be red, I bet, but it's just too hard to cut all junk out. Like Phlika said, it's not good to be too restrictive - it makes things worse in the long run, at least for me. My problem is I love to bake cookies (and eat them!). So what I usually do is freeze them and eat a little at a time. That way, it's easier not to go overboard. Maybe you could stash some away and only leave out a little of the sweets?

LOL! I was also told that people who peel beer labels are also supposedly sexually frustrated.
Aside from the movie, I think phlika's hit the nail on the head - "wishful thinking" and all that.
Come to think of it, my boyfriend seems to be constantly thinking wishfully. We just came back from vacation, and Alli, if you've got any ideas as to how to get a guy to leave a girl alone for ten minutes my nether regions would be grateful wink1:laugh:
But seriously, being on spring vacation in NW WA state means a lot of overheated restaurants, which is a big flush factor for me, and sucking/chewing ice cubes saves me yes: big time. Now I've just come to order ice water with whatever drink I get. And if I truly don't want to flush, I will order salad or a sandwich (doesn't happen a whole lot though smile: I love salads but there always seems to be something more interesting).
PS I've just learned I'm not allowed to use 6 smileys in one post...lol what a rule

Your complaining???? LOL. Tell him you have a nasty dose of thrush and it would be in his best interest to wear a 'rubber duckie', tha'll soon make him not want to botherlaugh:

Quite frankly I would never pay the money for a salad in a restaurant. I would even begrudge paying what you do for a takeaway one from a local deli for lunch on work days, not when you know how cheap it is to throw a salad together yourself at home. I eat a salad everyday for lunch on workdays, brought in as a 'packed lunch' and I can tell you the odd occasion I would ever get to go to a restaurant there is no way I would force yet another salad on myself I would definately be going for the 'more interesting' option and if necessary start playing with a load of icecubes!

Hell ya, I can relate to that! These days, though, I have pretty much developed a good control of my diet. Where I end up out of control is at the casino. I hate it when I'm on my way home feeling like such a dumb ass because I've given them my money again! I swear I'll never learn.
