Hey Bruno,

I decided to start this low carb diet after reading Rosacea 101 diet book.

What made you decide to start the low carb diet?

Well i find it very difficult to know exactly what to eat, some people say you can eat meat and others say you cant

I would be very interested in knowing what you were told you can eat and what is working for you?

We could exchange ideas on foods to eat ?i have written up a 7 day diet plan for myself

Thanks

hi jason

i decided to start the rosacea diet because I have done many treatments to treat rosacea, such as IPL, antibiotics, creams, basically what many people already tried but without success. never believed much in the diet, but now after reading several posts of people with improvement in rosacea based on diets, i decided to try.
I also ordered the zz cream and acarid soap, I think that it will come this week. I am also searching for HCL capsules.
Unfortunately i donīt have rosacea 101 book, only searched on the web for the rosacea diet, but I am confused with certain foods, because some say it's bad for rosacea others say it's good ..
I still do not have a plan for 7 days on a diet. I need to make a diet plan too, meanwhile I eat salmon, tuna, sardines, juice of green tea and cutting coffee, sugar, salt, pork, cow ...
my mother is doing the cholesterol diet so we are eating almost the same. but as you my friend jason, i donīt know exactly what should i eat, even if a know all the foods that should i eat or avoid, but keep a good meal, to not lose weight, or strengh.
could you tell me what is your 7 day diet plan?

Thanks..

Bruno

My diet consists of a lot of red meat and fish, i have read in places that these are no triggers but have also read in other places that it has lots of niacin.
I think i need to find a way to counter the niacin effects

Ok well here is my diet plan and it is based on the concept of 30 carbs or less a day, and i will tell your from a week experience it is very very difficult and you have alot of cravings

Feedback from anyone would be great, you can have as much protein during the day as you want just NO SUGAR and less than 30 CARBS a day

I am currently looking into salad greens atm

I write it pretty rough so if something doesnt make sense just ask k

Im not sure about salt though

I was on Bee Wilder's Candida Diet for some time and it really did help my face. It's high in good fat (cocunut oil, olive oil, butter etc), high in protein and low in carbs. No preservatives, no sugar, gluten-free...and more (too much to explain in one sentence).

My favourite meal was to make up a huge broth/soup:

Bacon hocks
Celery
Onion
Garlic
Red and Green Capsicum
Cauliflower
Coconut oil
Butter
Chicken stock (home made best)
Spices of your choice
Celtic Sea Salt (MUCH better than processed table salt)
Ground Pepper

(I'm sure there was more I used to put in?!)

Bung it all in a big pot and bring to the boil. Simmer for a few hours until the meat falls away from the bones.

Remove the bones (give them to the dog) LOL

Serve up a big bowl, it's very filling.

You can freeze portions for any meal of the day.

I've got loads of recipes for low carb. You just have to use your imagination a bit.

hi jason
i noticed that you didnīt include sardines and tuna (tinned or not) in your diet plan 7days, because you donīt want to include in your diet or because it is not as good as, for example some foods mentioned in your diet?. I ask because where I live is more easily to buy canned tuna and canned sardines than for example tin of Asparagus.
I know that we must avoid pork, but a slice of bacon, time to time thatīs not problem? ..
about the green tea, used to make tea, and had some problems by drinking it hot, but bought juice from green tea, but unfortunately contains lemon, I think the lemon is not as good for rosacea, and also contains sugar and sweeteners, then I will return to the hot green tea.
I have taken tea green, and I see no difference in rosacea..
and you, are you doing something else besides the diet?

thanks

I too, like RedHotoz am on bee Wilder's diet and it has marked man improvements in my skin (not only concerning Rosacea)

The recipe I can contribute is my egg omelette.

Ingredients

1 Tbsp of Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil
3-5 Organic Eggs
2 Stalks of kale
1 part of Red Pepper
3 Garlic Gloves
Sea Salt

Instructions

Coat a pan with the Coconut Oil (add more if desired) and heat the pan on medium until smokey
Beat 3-5 Organic Eggs in a bowl, set the stove to low and put the eggs in the Pan
Mince the Kale, Red Bell pepper and garlic cloves and put on top of the egg right after the egg is flipped
Sandwhich the egg and voila, you have a low carb, high fat, moderate protein, nutrient dense meal that is fairly easy to digest!
Add Sea Salt to taste

Hi Bruno, im no nutritional expert im just providing the diet i made after reading the ROSACEA 101 Diet book.
I'm not sure if canned salmon, tuna or sardines are good or bad for rosacea, but i have been taken salmon and have had no problems so far. The reason i don't have tuna or sardines is that i do not like the taste and i think i read somewhere that maybe sardines arent good for rosacea mite be wrong ( try googling it)

In the book it says you can substitute any protein for any protein, so you can eat as much meat as you want during the day. Just less than 30 carbs and no sugars.

The trick is to be creative in what you eat
i.e. combine lettuce, hard boiled egg, celery, cut up chicken pieces, mixed nuts etc

So did drinking cold green tea help you? and do you know if you can eat mixed nuts? and is pork/bacon not good for rosacea??

Jason1984

Hey fut...

How long did you go on the low carb diet and what effects did you notice on your rosacea

Thanks heaps

Also, redhotz when making soup what do you add to make the actual liquid and flavour?

for instance if i make a chicken soup

i would add
-chicken, celery, bacon, brocolli, cabagge, etc but what do i add to make it liquid and what do i use for flavouring ( i.e. water and what?)

Cheers

hi jason, i downīt know about sardines, i think they are good for rosacea but iīll search for it...

the cold green tea problem is that it also contains sugar and sweeteners, and limon...so i think i will cut on the cold tea... but anyway it not helped rosacea, takes time i guess...
yes, iīm confused about the mixed nuts, and pork/bacon..please help..
and about the HCL capsules and omega 3 suplements, have you heard about those?

Hey there is some much conflicting information on the internet about green tea, HCL Tabs, omega 3 and pork

I have to say though 75% of what i have read say that cold green tea is good for rosacea. how do you no it contains lemon and sweetners?

At the shops they sold lemon green tea separately. Also on the pack that im drinking it says that there is no additives and is all natural.

By the way im also taking E-mycin pills and using metro gel.

How are you going with your low carb diet? how long have you been doing it? have you noticed any improvements?

BrunoP
25th November 2008, 03:38 PM
I started my diet 6 days ago, but it is too early to see improvement in rosacea, however i still not note anything.
I read in this forum, and other articles that we must avoid some fruits, so I think limon too, so the green tea that i was taking contains lemon, and is not as natural as yours, because it contains sugar and sweeteners, I will look for one the most natural possible in natural products shop.
on the cápuslas of HCL I also read an article:

"People who suffer from this disese do not produce enough hydrochloric acid. After every meal take 10 grams of hydrochloric acid. Defiency in hydrochloric acid gives rise to a chain reaction that result in flushing and redness. If you feel Discomfort after taking hydrochloric acid then reduce the dosage by half. After 3 months you can discontinuous the dose as the body will now be able to produce its own acid; you will no longer need to take supplements of hydrochloric acid. "

hereīs the full article:

http://www.acnerosaceacure.com/diet-for-rosacea.html

so, we should take these capsules along with diet? whatīs your opinion.
one more thing, in your breakfast, the products, for example:
-1 Egg
-1 Bacon
-1 Stalk celery
-1 / 2 Tablespoon mixed nuts

do you mix them all, or eat separately?
what fruit do you eat or can you eat? apple, pear, banana? and what fruits should we avoid

our bodies need calcium, and sugar, and if we have to cut back on lactose, and sugar, what foods that are good for rosacea do the same effect? one of the things I fear is that we can get weak, or diabetic .. and like to eat well to improve rosacea, and not bring other problems..

cheers ...

Hey bruno, im not sure bout the HCL, im not going to take them until ive done more research.

Most fruit contains a lot of sugar, so i just take 1 vitamin C tablet, im not sure if this is good or bad either though sorry.

For the breakfast you could....
combine to eggs and whisk them with a fork and add a bit of water or milk
then add some cook bacon to the egg mix and some celery and cook the mix and eat

HCl in tablet form is the same HCl your body requires to produce. Taking HCL with meals is important for me. On one source they say if your stomach doesn't feel acidic after 4 capsules per meal then you have extremely low stomach acid. Well not even 10 tablets is enough stomach acid for me.

One time I didn't take HCl with a meal I cheated on (bread, packed with carbs) and my stomach felt the pain. After a while on a great diet, cheating feels much worse - like you cant ell the poison you are putting in your body.

HCl works well to break down hard to digest foods, digestion is a problem i've had for the longest without even realizing it. Solving my digestion, colon, kidney, liver, gallbadder problems has cured my acner and is putting my Rosacea into complete remission!

If you check ym earlier posts I achieve close to complete reemission when doing hydro colonics and somewhat watching my diet. Doing this strict diet to cure my Candida has already surpassed that mark!

You'd think it would be bad to take so much HCl because your body gets used to it, but actually on this diet as your immune system builds and you get proper nutrients, you need less and less HCl. Remember, it's made naturally by the body so you don't build an immunity to it!

I am very interested to see how your diets turn out, in terms of flushing, redness, p&p.
I too tried a rosacea diet-- I started in July and was strictly on it for 2 months (no gluten, no sugar, very low carbs, no bacon, no spinach, no tomatoes, no citrus fruits, etc) I did not notice a different in any of my symptoms after those 2 months; however, and I found the diet so restricting that I was miserable on it. I hope you guys have a better response than I did!

This is my first post. I've had rosacea 11 years. During these years I discovered what foods caused my face to flush. These foods are potatoes, spicy food, maybe seafood and eating any food while it is still hot. I worried myself sick wondering what foods would cause a flare-up. Today I eat mostly any food with no problem.

For the last 6 years I have changed to purchasing organic food as much as possible. I drink only filtered water and mangosteen juice. No pop, coffee or alcohol. I've never been a coffee or alcohol drinker anyway. I take very good vitamins. For breakfast I eat oatmeal with (USDA) Rice Dream milk and (USDA) honey on it with a little cinnamon everyday. I eat eggs with sea salt and a little pepper along with grapefruit, apples or other fruit. I look for the (USDA) sticker on the food packages I purchase. I eat organic fruits and vegetables or at least as much as I can afford. Tomatoes don't affect my rosacea as I've heard some people say.

I eat organic chicken mostly. I rarely eat any other meat. Organic meats do not contain hormones or antibiotics. I've read yeast in bread isn't healthy so I buy USDA bread without yeast. It sounds strange, but there are some tasty brands out there.

My suggestion would be to not eat junk food as well.

I also bought a shower filter that connects to our shower head which filters out chlorine and other bad stuff. I believe this helped. I also look for laundry detergent, dish washing soaps and any kind of cleaners for our home in the health food section of a store. Again, become familiar with ingredients in household items you use everyday that are harmful.

I used Metrogel then Tetracycline when I was first diagnosed with rosacea but stopped pretty quickly afterwards because of the crummy side-effects. No more drugs for me!!! I tried all kinds of natural ways to treat it over the years. Nothing really worked.

I began using a non-toxic skin care line this past month and I can hardly tell I have rosacea now! Normally anything I put on my face causes a flare-up of pimples and redness. I believe the makeup we use, our skin care products and anything we touch to our face should be as free of chemicals as possible. This goes for shaving cream that guys use. I've found out what ingredients are bad in skin care products and avoid them.

Hope this helps.

Solving my digestion, colon, kidney, liver, gallbadder problems has cured my acner and is putting my Rosacea into complete remission!

Fut can I ask what you did for gallbladder and liver probems?

I have a MAJOR gallstone problem and have been trying to deal with it as I am caught up in an NHS nightmare here in the UK. (Full story is pretty unbelievable). It is coming out, I am now on a waiting list and waiitng for a date for surgery, but actually ended up having to go private to get onto an NHS waiting list for the surgery as I was f**ked around by the consultant I was assigned to let alone a doctor, (excuse my french folks but I am at the end of my tether), but what I am living with is a bl**dy nightmare in the meantime and there are suspicions that my pancreas might be bandjaxed, (I had some elevated blood test results for the pancreas back in December so they want to rule out pancreatic pathology, just greatmad1:) Only they nearly killed me last week trying to force pressure on my veins that it wouldn't take for the contrast die for a CT scan. Four attempts and the veins said no to the water test then they decided to up the pressure with disasterous consequences and I went into shock and I now have little power in my right arm with pressure pain and pins and needles and it ain't settling. I just don't know what's going on inside this body of mine.

I have done two Liver flushes and got loads out but my good the pain on top of what I have been living with along with pressure headaches and blackouts was just not worth it and I don't want to attempt another one. The problem I think is major congestion in the hepatic ducts. It has improved and by god I am in a better state than when I first went to A&E in September but there are so many in my ducts and gallbladder my ultrasound report wouldn't even put a number on them.

I have decided to go slow and I am using a combination of apple juice, apples and pears, and olive oil and lemons, (but not the big flush recipe), and believe it or not coffee. (Yes folks the dreaded caffiene and it works! Three days back into drinking coffee, three cups a day, and I felt the bloody things crack and pop all over the place). Anything else you can think of off the supermarket shelves? cause my liver ain't handling anything like meds, I have stopped all things that they have prescribed over the months as everything has made things worse so don't want to use any supplements either at the moment so its food stuffs onlyyes:.

Your situation sounds awful, Allibear...I hope that you get some relief very soon!!!

Re: diet & rosacea...

After years of experimenting I've found that if I avoid dairy, wheat, alcohol, red meats, & sugary foods and eat fresh organic foods then my skin does much much better. This turns out to be a rather low carb diet because I find that I must eat things other than the usual American diet and junk food, etc (which is basically made from overprocessed meats, lots of wheat, dairy and bad oils).

Like Redhotz, I too like soups. They're VERY easy to make --- just saute some onion and garlic in olive oil in a big pot. Add some diced and sliced vegetables like celery, mushrooms, carrots, zuchini, potatoes and fill the pot with water. Add some diced chicken (raw or cooked or even a whole chicken breast if you're feeling lazy --- can cut it up later). I don't eat red meats (too full of hormones that are linked to inflammation). Bring to a boil, add some salt and lower to a simmer. Taste the soup and add more salt as needed. Add some italian spices (oregano, thyme, basil, etc...you can get a box of "Italian seasoning" to make things easier). Cook for 30-40 minutes or all day if you want...it just gets thicker. Once you start making soups it becomes very easy to experiment with ingredients!

Here's what I eat daily:

Breakfast --- organic oatmeal cooked with walnuts, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and brazil nuts, and topped with Silk Vanilla Soy Milk and frozen blueberries. A glass of watered down organic grape juice and a cup of white tea with soy milk.

Lunch --- brown rice nuked with leftover vegies from the night before, topped with diced hard boiled egg and some nutritional yeast. An apple.

Dinner --- things like soups, BIG salads, baked potato, chicken breast (cooked in a little spaghetti sauce is yummy), fish baked with diced garlic, rice & sauteed vegies, etc.

Check out Vegan cookbooks in the library...they have lots of low carb ideas...vegan cooking is naturally low carb or at least good carbs and the tastes are very fun. You can easily add some sauteed meats to Vegan recipies to round things out.

Good luck!

Cheers Claudia, I'm in the 5th month of sruggling to get through a day in work and lying flat out on a bed, that's why I haven't been around much. Mind you the dog's loving it as I was feeling she was getting a bit neglected she's getting to come up on my bed a lot, which she loves but usually only gets as a treat now and againlaugh:

My Diet has gone the oposite way. High carb, (mainly wholgerains, breads, pasta, rice etc and fruit and veg, hardly any protein, drastically cut down on what I was eating protein wise.

The carbs fruit and veg are about the only thing that will go in one end and out the other anyway, much deviation from this and clunk, my whole system shuts down and pain everywhere. Mind you I had about two months that even a glass of water caused me severe pain and trauma so I'm just happy to be able to eat remotely normal meals again even if I am restricting to what works best for pain and 'movement', but I tell you this I come out of this feeling like a properly functioning human being again and without any chronic complications I won't give a hoot about what I eat againwink1:

Hi i just thought id give an update on the diet.

Had a bit of trouble around the holiday time with the diet too much temptations around the place.

but since the new year have been on a strict diet.

No red meat (i eat chicken and salmon)
No fruits
No flour, bread, wheat etc
No dairy
NO SUGAR at all

2 L of water per day ATLEAST

I eat plenty of green veges and lots of nuts and almonds and seeds
I also now only eat egg whites

This has seen a GREAT improvement in my overall rosacea. My flushing and permanent redness has been hugely reduced/

I reccommend it to anyone who has at there ends witts with rosacea like i am.

It requires a lot of committement and is almost impossible otherwise.

Once you follow it for awhile you may be able to modify the diet a bit to allow in more variety of foods. For example, I can now eat al-dente pasta and fruit (except for citrus fruits) with no problem! And there are other kinds of flour that seem to be ok...like spelt flour. Spelt flour is an ancient flour with a higher protein content. In our area you can buy spelt bread from the health food store that is yummy!

Now I'm so used to eating an organic diet full of fresh vegies, fruits, nuts/seeds, and soy, along with lean white meats & a little pasta and spelt bread, that when visiting relatives I'm appalled by how boring and junk-food tasting a regular American diet is.

Another benefit to this healthy diet is that it stengthens the immune system (especially if you eat fruit too).
