Hi all,
I have a new symptom, a stye on my eyelid. Pretty sure I didn't have it this morning, could it have popped up while I was working?
This week I've felt awful, like I was fighting something and I've been flushing every night.
Does this mean I should add eyelid cleansing and compresses to my routine? Or should I see a doctor?
Thanks,
Sari

low dose doxy should take care of ocular rosacea, if you have been offficially diagnosed.

Hi Sari,
First you need to use warm compresses on the stye to allow it to open and drain. I recommend warm compresses for at least 4x a day 15 min per session.
Then you may want to begin cleansing your lid margins before bedtime as to try and prevent the styes to begin with. And oral antibiotics will help but is not a first line of defense.
Best wishes,
Melissa

I would suggest going to the doctor as well. I went once for some cream and it got rid of my stye i had at the end of my eyelid. I hate styes cause ive had two that got so huge i had to have them surgically removed! So my advice is to seek medical attention asap to get rid of it fast before it grows more. Of course, this isnt meant to scare you!!

Could be an old wives tale but someone told me to rub a gold ring on my sty... seemed to work.

Hi Sari,
If you catch the stye relatively early and apply the warm compresses frequently you will be able to open it up and let it drain without surgical intervention. It's just when it becomes chronic and encapsulated (chalazion) that you might need to go to the doctor and have it punctured and opened that way. But you don't normally have to go to the doctor for styes that you begin applying warm compresses to immediately. And I am very conservative regarding doctors as you know and am always recommending going when necessary. Of course, if this stye becomes bigger and resistant to the warm compresses I agree with EK and make an appt but that should be a last resort IMO. We have enough doctor appts to deal with and don't need to add any unless it is necessary.
I hope you are doing better soon and let us know how it goes.
Best wishes,
Melissa
PS Remember those lid scrubs at night.

Hi all,
Thanks for the advice everyone. I've been doing the compresses and also added the scrubs to my am/pm routine. The stye has subsided, but my eyes still feel slightly sore. I don't feel like I'm fighting an illness as much today either, and I didn't have a big flush last night like every other day this week.
This eye thing is weird. Bright lights are killer! I've become very photosenstive. Last night on the subway, I was sitting under the light and felt a flush coming on, so I moved. I feel very much like a vampire - can't handle light, I stay out of the sun, and I feel best at night.
Moomy - I read about that old wives tale too, interesting that it worked for you. You have to wonder about these old traditions, how they work, and how they got started in the first place.
So, I'm going to hold off on the doctor for this week, but if the scrubs/compresses don't keep things under control will definitely be going. I'm hoping that if I don't flush as much, the eye symptoms will subside.
Again, thanks everyone!

Hi there ive had a couple of styes and i have a great way for getting rid of them. I spent about 12 hours googling all the cures/aides and i am certain this ones the best.
Boil water pour a small amount on a tea bag and place on your eyelid (ONLY WHEN ITS BAREABLE) DONT BURN YOURSELF LOL. hold on until the tea bag is cold then repeat.
This ive found usually clears styes up in a couple of hours - half a day. The warm compress action from the teabag is the main solution but the tanin in the tea is the real kicker. Just thought id post this solution incase anyone else came looking :).

Thanks for the tip!
If anyone else tries this please let us know how it goes.
I may start recommending this method to others if no one injures themselves grin:
Best wishes,
Melissa
