Has anyone been to see Dr. Kevin Smith in Niagara Falls, Ontario? I did a search and a member by the name of Dan was going to a consultation with him back in 2006. Dan, are you out there by any chance? Can you provide any reviews/feedback?
I'll call his office and try and get some more information, and will probably make the journey (not that far from Toronto) to get some treatments. I've found the Bayvood Clinic in Toronto very good for VBeam, but for whatever reason the rosacea on my nose responds best to IPL. And since it's growing again, I either better get some treatments or stop lying so much (bad joke).
If I go, I'll let everyone know how the treatment goes, but any feedback in advance would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know anything about that doctor, but if you're in Southern Ontario, you might look at Dr. Vignjevic (http://www.doctorv.ca/services/light-treatments/ipl-fotofacial-skin-rejuvenation.html) (in Hamilton) He offers free consultations and seems to have a fairly detailed web site. But I have never seen him or seen any recommendations, so I don't know any more than what I see on his site.

Thanks very much for the information re: Dr. V. I've read over all the information on his website with great interest and he sounds promising. I'm going to call his office tomorrow and find out what IPL machine he uses.
It's great to have options. A few years ago, they didn't exist in Toronto.
Thanks again!

Chelsey,
Any news with Dr. Smith? I ve been reading about him and his practice and it sounds promising. I might go to see him after 2 more VBeam treatments at Baywood. I'll do more research about Cutera Coolglide. Also, I think he doesnt charge any consultation fee and costs less than VBeam.

Hi Francois,
The week I called he was at a conference in Australia. I spoke to one of the technicans who performs the treatments, but she wasn't able to answer a lot of my questions. She suggested emailing him or phoning him the next week, but I haven't followed up with either. I may email Dr. Darm who I went to see a couple of years ago and ask why he recommended him to one of our members.
For now I'm going with tried and true Dr. Chan at Baywood whom I've had good results with. If nose doesn't improve I may have to consider IPL treatment again.

Hey Chelsea,
I e-mail Dr. Smith and he advised me a doctor (Dr. Don..) in Toronto. He raved about the LimeLight IPL and Cutera Xeo for rosacea. I have been doing a lot of research lately and there seems to be a lot of clinics in Toronto that use almost all types of devices.
I am not sure if they have to be really experienced in treating rosacea because you can always find the standard parameters and ask them to use on you, especially for the Sciton BBL which many experts think is the best IPL in the market and it doesnt require the user to be an expert.
I am gonna make an appointment with few clinics just to make sure that they have a reasonable protocol or willing to agree with using parameters given by me :)

Hey Francois, it's so nice to have you following up with Dr.Smith and the IPL clinics in Toronto! I have to admit, after ten years I'm kind of running out of steam about doing further research, but I really appreciate your efforts!
I saw your question to Dr. Soldo and am looking forward to hearing his opinion about the Limelight and Cutera Xeo for the treatment of rosacea.
I hope you're right about the new generation of technology (i.e. practitioners don't have to be experts if you give them the appropriate parameters) but I would just caution you to be wary, there are a lot of Toronto practitioners who don't have good results and are really just interested in taking your money (I've met a couple of them). I think that this is a bit of an art as well as a science and that the Dr's experience, ethics and motivation are important as well. However, I also know what a savy consumer you've become so I'm sure you'll continue to be thorough and do your homework. And all Torontonians benefit from that, so thank you!

Yes, I saw him and he gave me the ROSASOL cream & dismissed the light treatment. His first visit was free & he was quite nice. I didn't get any noticable benefit from the ROSASOL other then the fact it contains a sunscreen. Subsequently, I am going to see him again next week for another consulatation. I live in Buffalo,NY.

Hi Liz,
Thank you very much for replying. What light treatment did he dismiss? Are you going to ask for IPL treatments during your second consultation? Please let me know how it goes.

I plan on seeing him a second time by the end of this month. He thought this Rosasol Cream was going to be the cure but I can't say it ever did as much as anti-bioltic lotion I get here in the States. I live in Buffalo,NY

Hi Liz,
Thanks for the follow up. I did a google search and discovered that Rosasol is basically 1% metronidazole combined with sunscreen. Speaking only of my own experience, I personally didn't find topical creams ( currently use Noritate) to be of any significant help until I had eradicated a lot of the problem through multiple IPL and most recently Vbeam treatments. I'm wary that he thought that rosasol would be a "cure" (or even close to a cure) for your rosacea.
If you don't mind the advice, I would focus your second meeting with him on what his IPL treatments can do for you and not what conventional treatment can offer (very little, especially with resistant cases). Ask for pictures/testimonies from his patients and make sure he seems really confident of his protocols/treatment plan.
Best of luck!

It was me that Dr. Darm's assistant recommended Dr. Smith to. She based her recommendation on an article he had written in a scientific magazine in which he seemed to know something about Rosacea. Made an appointment to see him but before I went listened to a webinar (sc) he gave. He was clearly a schill for the laser company. Someone I was writing to in Canada went to see him and said he knew nothing about treating Rosacea. Cancelled my appointment

Dr. Smith has written about rosacea:
Smith KC: Combined erythema and telangiectasia respond quickly to combination treatment with intense pulsed light followed immediately by the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser. Cosmetic Dermatology 2007(20)8:503-505.
He is quite knowledgeable about light devices for rosacea.
