View Full Version : Using other skin products for over-40/aging skin

On a non-rosacea skin care board I sometimes visit stable Vit. C creams (in the AM) and a retinol cream -like Tazorac- in the PM) is highly suggested for aging/over 40 skin.

I'm wondering if this is also a good idea for women with rosacea as I'm now 44. I'm pondering doing something "more" for my skin as I'm noticing fine lines and some sagging.

All I currently use on my skin is a cream with SPF(Olay Complete) in the am and Finacea with a moisturizer(Dove Sensitive Lotion) on top in the PM.

Thanks!

Hi,

I would be very careful as our rosacea skin is way more sensitive than most people's.
I would stay away from any antiaging creams and lotions as they have harsher ingredients that exfoliate and diminish fine lines and wrinkles and such.

Staying out of the sun and moisturizing well and having a good diet should help us remain looking younger than our nonrosacean counterparts anyway. :D

Best wishes,
Melissa

Hi,

I stick with Clinique, but I'm not very adventurous when it comes to makeup brands. I rarely wear anything except lipstick, and that only occassionally. I liked Almay lipstick for a while but they changed their formula and disco'd my colour. Plus, I toss out and replace make up every year now, if it is opened, whether I used very much or not, same with make up brushes, out of paranoia in case of bacteria/contamination.

Hi Kelvweb,
I know it's soooo tempting to try some of the new products available that help with elasticity and wrinkles but please beware! I'm 46, so I know what you are talking about. [I would love to find an eye cream that doesn't sting.] Unfortunatley most of those products use high percentages of retinols and alpha hydroxy acid, which was what I was using when I developed rosacea.
Your best bet is to treat your skin gently with mild cleansers and moisturisers. Drink lots of water, also a suppliment like fish oil can help if it doesn't make you flush.
I'm using a moisturiser called Rosa Relief. It's very soothing, and it does have a small amount of retinol in it. It has really improved the texture and tone of my skin.
If what you are using now suits you, sometimes you are further ahead by just sticking to what works. Good Luck!
