Does anyone have any laser doctor recommendations for the New York City area?
I have had 3 laser treatments from one doctor which left me with a lot of side effects and not much positive in terms of results. I'm thinking a doctor with more experience with rosacea might be my best bet.
Any suggestions? I'm willing to travel for the right doctor.
Thanks.

Hi rf11,
I moved your thread to where you may receive more answers.
As it happens, I'm in NYC and I recommend my primary derm Dr. David Cohen at NYU 212-263-5889. He doesn't do lasers though.
Dr. Vicki Levine also at NYU does do lasers and I also recommend her. I had 2 VBeams with her so far and like her style. She is very knowledgeable and conservative.
Hopefully you will receive more recommendations and please keep us posted. It sometimes takes a few (or many) doctors to find one with the style you like and the knowledge you need.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Melissa

My sister recently had her first visit with Dr. Harvey Jay in NYC (phone: 212-755-2237). She said he did more for her in one visit with Photoderm (pulsed light) than any other dermatologist has done. He comes highly recommended. He gets patients coming to him for facial redness from all over the world. He took his time taking down all of her history & she never felt rushed.
He is very careful to customize his treatment for each patient to ensure no side effects.
You can find his website which shows before & after photos for rosacea patients.
Good Luck! Please let us know how it works out whichever doctor you choose.

I didn't care for Dr. Jay's office.
They make you pay with a credit card just to make an appt!!
So you pay before you even see him!
That feels like strong arming to me. Very aggressive money making practice.
I also heard/read questionable things about him.
I think a couple of people went to him and didn't like him.
Just be careful please before you decide to make an appt.

Really? That's surprising. My sis really luvs him which is very unusual for her - she said the deposit was deducted from her 1st appt & no different from when her ob/gyn charged her for a full visit when had to cancel an appt less than 24 hours to attend a friend's wake. I guess different treatments & different doctors work for different people but she is happy w/him & I see positive improvement in her skin for the first time ever. She has had severe rosacea/flushing problems for several years & wasted alot of money on photofacial. She was seeing someone named Dr. Doris Day with whom she spent several thousands of dollars over 2 years and her problems got progressively worse. She said Dr. Day would always rush and spend all of 2 minutes with her. She likes Dr Jay because he takes his time and answers all of her questions.

I've actually been to Dr. Cohen as well, he was the one who figured out my allergies. He is also the doctor who expresses total shock and the shoddy laser job I got and keeps asking me who did the laser and told me don't ever do it again :)
I like him a lot, I think he is a smart guy.
I'm going to try a consult with both of these laser doctors. I need to do something, hopefully the damage done can be corrected.
Thanks for your input!

Hi rf11,
David Cohen is my primary derm and I love him!!
He is the doc who recommended both my laser derms-Linda Franks and Vicki Levine. I am currently seeing Dr. Levine at NYU for laser and would recommend her. She's the chief of the laser clinic at NYU.
Best wishes,
Melissa
Edit: Sorry, I just noticed that I already gave you that info. Too much info swirling around in my head I guess LOL
I would ask Dr. Cohen what he thinks of Dr. Jay. I have a feeling it will be a NO.

Yeah, there was a decent amount of discussion about Dr. Jay awhile back on one of the other boards. I came away after reading the reports/anecdotes of people who'd seen him that he was probably not the best option if you're looking for a laser doc.

I'm going to make another appointment with Dr. Cohen to talk about further laser therapy. He was really against it for me after what happened with the last treatment. But maybe with the right doctor...anyway it's worth a consult.
I won't post the name of the doctor who did the way-too-aggressive laser on this board but if you are curious to know I will respond to personal emails. I think he's known to be a good doctor and has a really good reputation -- I just don't think he's the doc for me.
Thanks for the info all. Much appreciated!!

Dr. Jody Konstandt in Scarsdale is very nice. She is part of a large practice run by Dr. Amy Newburger. I am not sure if they do lasters, but I believe they do.
