Hey all,
I know I posted in another thread I dont care about the breakout happening now, but its getting bad, I am miserable. It hurts, I look so ugly. I have a compress on the side of my face but despite my advice to another poster its not doing diddly. My cheek, upper lip, and chin are a mess Im just venting here, sorry all, I just feel and look terrible. My cheek is so swollen from the acne its making my eye swell up. It a FAB look. Im trying to keep my sence of humor but it is not easy. The Ugly factor isnt what bothers me, it freaking HURTS!!! I started taking the mino again, though it tears up my stomach I have to knock this down.

So sorry to hear you are having a hard time. :( I'm afraid i don't have any ground breaking cures. is this something that comes on suddenly or do yu see the build up happening over a few days? the reason I ask is because though In hot weather I get red, flushed, slight stinging and few pimples, it is not as bad as you appear to get. I can not imagine your frustration and helplessness, despite doing all you can to prevent the attacks...Scream all you like, somehow it helps as does the venting. Thinking of you. Does your skin get drier in times like this or does it actually get oily? Dryness of skin causes greater irritation.

Hey Laura,

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time of it right now.

If it makes you feel any better I look like a train wreck. Blotchy, red and I think I see some pimples wanting to come out and play LOL. And I paid a premium to look like this (post VBeam)

Anyway, this will pass. I pray. For both of us. So hang in there and keep the faith. Listen to some really heartbreakingly sad music (for some reason, that always makes me feel better. (Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, whoever floats your boat). Maybe it'll work for you also!

All the best,
Melissa

I guess I shoul put a good spin on it and say at least it just on one side of my face, so I can sleep a little bit. Itts still SO sore.
And oh Hell, Im getting a stye, #^($*$(&$$(*& helll!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laura,

Sorry if I'm repeating myself from a previous thread but are you getting recurrent styes? If so, you might want to cleanse your lid margins every AM and PM with something like theralid or ocusoft. It helps get rid of excess bacteria at the lid margins that clog up the lid glands and cause styes.

As you already said though, you do want to put warm compresses on it to open it up and get it to drain. I'm sorry, i know it's a real drag but it's better to nip in the bud early.

Big hugs to you from me and the boys (Billy and Oreo)!!

Laura,
sorry to hear about your breakout. I am also going through one and i am sick of it.
I have been compiling a very long list of medicines, supplements, procedures that are going to come out or that i have not tried yet. When i feel down, i look at this list and tell myself that i am only about 10% through it. That's a lot of stuff i haven't tried yet! Something has got to work one day!

Also, ask for a friend to come over. Friends are so good are bringing us hope, either directly or simply by still being our friends. I often don't want to see people when i am down, but if i force myself (or someone forces me), i always feel better after it....

take care,
eric

Awwww, thanks for the flowers!
I see Im not the only one whos face is going crazy at the moment. Big hugs to Eric, Melissa, Phlika, and anyone else having a bad time of it. Im in better spirits today, still look a mess, but Im doing everything I can do to stop it, and thats all we can do, fight the sucker back.
A lot of crazy things were happening around my building yesterday, its a big soap opera, and I got a little aggravated with it all, so thank you all for bearing with my ranting.

Hugs to all,
Laura

Hi Laura

So sorry to hear about the flare-up --- SUCKS doesn't it

I hate breaking out with the deep ones! I'm assuming these are deep p&p's? Does the mino work?

If these are deep ones and you keep getting flare-ups when you stop mino then it might be something like my derm talked to me about last office visit. She says that deep p&p's (...actually they're cysts...they hurt and swell up the face...) are due to a combination of hormone issues and pores that don't function properly. She said there's no topical that will work and the only things that do work are pills (birth control, spironolactone and antibiotics). This is despite aggressive advertising and articles claiming topicals can sufficiently open the pores to take care of the problem. The real problem with cystic acne is it's too deep for the topicals to get to so infection sets in, etc etc

In her practice Bactrim has worked the best for women with resistant cystic acne, combined along with Spironolactone...both of which can supposedly be taken for life (...my pharmacist agreed). I double (triple) checked with her on this because at one time I thought she had said it would be best to lower the dose to nothing but she said no, that what she meant was to lower the dosage as low as it still keeps the skin clear. I guess that certain antibiotics are better than others if you have to take them a long time. And the dosage can ebb and flow based on how the skin is doing...the key is to finding the lowest dose that works and sticking with it.

If your skin's been breaking out like mine through the years (since age 15 and I'm now 56) then that's a pretty good indicator it's not going to go away on its own. I'm even past menopause when supposedly the skin gets dryer...but my face is still as oily in the t-zone as a teenager's (which is where I get cystic outbreaks and redness). Of course I look about 10 years younger than all my peers but I'd gladly give up looking youthful for clear skin and no meds!

Me being the obsessive person I am kept pestering her about why topicals wouldn't work, etc. and she emphasized yet again that for some people's skin to function properly they have to take an internal drug. She also has me on Metro 1% to cut down on surface inflammation.

Besides drugs I try to drink a ton of water...eat lots of cooling fruits (melons, berries, etc) and watch comedy...as much as I can. "Scrubs" is hilarious. I like it because everyone on the show has their insecurities and somehow it makes me feel less vulnerable.

Keep us in the loop on how you're doing and know we love you and are hoping that very soon the mino kicks in and does its stuff

More flowers...

hey

hope things start clearing up for you soon.

have you tried taking tetro? it always works for me.... however sounds like your condition is more advanced than mine. but tetro clears the red patches and p&p's for me.... and within a day or two rids that aching pain and burning sensation.

i'm so against pills... but hey.

wish you a quick recovery.

im having a bit of a painful breakout right now as well so im feeling you on this.. trying to keep my sense of humor. i think laughter is important everyday.
the most hurtful part of this is how it affects my social life. 4 of my friends called me last night to come out but i just couldnt do it. i stayed in all night worrying about my face. saying no to my friends is the most painful part for me. but i did tell one of them about my problem and she was understanding and gave me support. i live alone in this country so my friends are my only support network that i have.
took some ibuprofen to help with the pain and it seemed to help the swelling a bit as well. maybe will call my doctor tomorrow if this continues.
today is my day off so im gonna stay out of the heat and watch a movie at home, listen to music and yoga.

Thanks again to all, and welcome Flatside,
You can count on us for support as well, and if there is something too personal feel free to PM us!
The mino helps, but its a trade off, it upsets my stomach. It does work though on the acne. Its a slow healing with the bad deep csytic ones, they just take forever to go away! I also use metro 1%, in the morning, and then ZZ cream at night, and this usualy does a pretty good job of keepng them at bay, but my face just decided to go goofy.
I also agree laughter, keeping a sence of humor is very important! I also like "Scrubs" lol. I watch silly sitcoms, it takes the mind off stuff. Or I surf the web for sillyness, plenty out there! And of course I come here. Where we are not at all silly sometimes.

Sky - Have you ever thought of going on low dose accutane? I did and it totally cleared up my acne. I haven't had a pimple in months and now I only take 20mgs per week (1 pill on mondays). I never had any side effects. The drug is far less scary then they make it out to be.
