Does anyone else experience this? I loose eyelashes on one spot of only one eye. They always grow back, but that spot is very sparse compared to the rest of the eye. My right eye is fine. I have no occular symptoms other than occasional dryness. No redness, scaling, inflamation. This has gone on for some time now, about 3 years before I developed rosacea.
I've read some old posts on the subject, but they had definate occular
symptoms, and it affected both eyes. Any ideas?

No Patty, haven't had that problem. I do hope you find out what it is tho. I have eye allergies that makeup irritates. Do you wear makeup?? Miserable

Patty,

Before my rosacea kicked in I had only dry eyes and a few eye lashes missing in the corner of left eye. Now I have inflammation and redness along with the dryness. I just went to the Dr. the other day and they told me I have blepharitis, which is common with rosacea I guess. I would use wetting drops for now and do lid scrubs and see if that helps for now. Thanks for the tips, I'm always interested in what happens with occular rosacea, I really don't think that's my problem, but who knows. My eyes were really dry this winter, but since taking Oracea, it's much better. I was hoping that little spot would fill in with more lashes, but it's still sparse. I am very careful with the makeup I use, and only wear mascara occasionally now. I really miss it, so some days I wear a lash tint.
I haven't mentioned this to my derm yet, I always seem to forget since I'm wisked in and out so quickly.

Patty, your eyelash loss could be correlated to seb derm, my eyelashes and eyebrows are always falling out (obviously not all at the same time  ) a few a day but they do grow back so it's not noticeable. That damn yeast on the skin is a pain...causing all sorts of inflammatory problems which also lead on to other problems like hairloss.

Is that was seb derm is, a yeast? If so I am wondering if threelac would work, it is an herb that gets rid of yeast in the body and I guess it does it very well. Has anyone tried this?...Jenn

Patty,

Could it be the mascara that you are using? Some mascaras make my eyelids itch and some of my lashes fall out. Try a different mascara to see if you notice a change.

I'm sure it's not the mascara. I'm pretty good about getting rid of old eye makeup, and only use mascara that conditions the lashes so they don't dry out.
I've read a lot about seb derm, and I'm sure I don't have that. And if I did, my derm would have cought on to it by now.
I'm thinking that I shed eyelashes too rapidly on that one eye for some reason. They grow back, but because of the rapid cycle, they are always sparse in that one area.
When I developed rosacea 2 years ago, I thought it was connected, and maybe it is, but like I said, it only affects one eye, and I have no redness, itching, inflamation, etc.
Does someone know of something that would possibly strengthen the lashes to keep them from shedding? I just dab moisturiser or emu oil on my lash line for now. Thanks

Patty,

I don't know if there's any merit to this but I started taking biotin a few years ago for my hair as per my drs suggestion. I felt my hair was lacking its usual shine and body and wasn't growing as fast as usual. Anyway, not sure if it helped but my hair's OK and lashes are related. Biotin is also supposed to be good for nails.

Melissa,
Just googled it, it's worth giving it a shot, it can't hurt and who wouldn't want thicker shinier hair?
Are you still taking it? Do you see results quickly?

Patty,

I wish I were an observant person. It's a big joke in my family. If someone shaved their head or grew a moustache I probably wouldn't notice LOL. So when people (especially my drs) ask if something is making a difference I really can't tell them unless it's a huge change. Like if I had p&ps and started taking an antibiotic and then they went away. Then I'd notice.

So as far as my hair is concerned there was no dramatic change and it wasn't the only change I made. I was a bit underweight at the time and my doctor felt I needed to gain some weight and that might help the health of my hair. So in combination with the biotin I gained weight gradually over the course of the year. My hair did go back to normal but I can't say for sure if it was the weight gain, the biotin, or a combination. I am still taking it because I figured what's the harm. I am currently taking 6oo mcg's a day of biotin.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful but please let me know if it helps your eyelashes. In the meantime, I'm going to think what else might be helpful for you.

Best wishes,
Melissa
