Hi guys, just saw the eye Dr. and he said I think what you have is blepharitis not occular. He is giving me steroid drops for the eyes because they are dry and the bleph I guess. We started talking about rosacea and he said yes you have type 1 where blood vessels break. I said yes and I am freaking out about this and hopefully it will not get worse. I told him I am thinking about doing laser if it gets worse. He said laser does not really help with your type. He said you should do the peels but those do not get the blood vessels to well :? ..I was freaking out worse thinking, great if I get worse a laser will not help me. My Derm told me the laser would work great on me. So I tell my husband this and he said, do not freak out, what does he know, he is an eye Dr...lol..I was like yeah that is true.

Can anyone tell me that has type 1 rosacea if laser has helped them? Thanks guys...Jenn

Hi Jenn,

I would be afraid to do any kind of peel. Rosacea skin is very sensitive and I would think that a peel would give your horrible results.

I had laser done on my face several years ago to have some veins removed. You can get rid of them but they come back or new ones develope. The laser they use now is much better than what they used to use. The old version left bruises on your face. The new version does not.

Stay away from the peels or anything else that is harsh to the skin.

Take care,

Bonnie

I was reading through posts mentioning Clarithromycin last night and came across a warning from a lady in the UK who'd had a peel on the recommendation of a derm for very mild rosacea, which had unfortunately pushed her into more severe rosacea.

I think your eye Dr has it sooo wrong where peels are concerned.

A peel is insane - stick with a great IPL/Laser Doc and ditch the eye Doc...

I'd also be wary of steroid drops. Are you using antibiotics and eyelid scrubs? If not, PLEASE give these a chance before you start using steroid drops. A short course of steroids can knock the inflammation back, but using them consistently is bad news bears.

Thanks guys for the info. He was making it sound like there was no hope with lasers in which scared me because that is all I would have if things get worse seeing I have type 1

David,

I told the Dr. exactly what you said about making things worse and he said no this is not topical these are drops. I am thinking topical or drops it is still the same med :? ..He didnt even mention eye lid scrubs or anything else, no antibiotics. He said no to antibiotics because you would have to stay on them forever. The worse symptom I have is dry eye and then the bleph, he did not think I have occular rosacea but bleph so is the steroids bad for that?

Thanks everyone and I surely will do laser before I do a peel...Thanks..Jenn

Yes, for god's sake, DO NOT do a peel!

Antibiotics are great for ocular problems--I don't know why, but their anti-inflammatory effect seems to have an inordinate action on ocular rosacea. Lid scrubs (Ocusoft) clean up the meibomian glands that help lubricate/normalize your tear film layer, which will take away the dry eye symptoms. Seriously--use them twice a day (just like brushing your teeth), and you WILL see a difference.

Also, if you aren't, start taking Evening Primrose Oil supplements. The gamma linolenic acid in the EPO cuts down ocular inflammation.

Your eye doc sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about, to be frank.

I'd REALLY think hard about using steroid drops. Just an FYI.

Hi Jennfran,

I second everyone's do NOT do a peel!!!
Also, I agree with David. Try antibiotics and lid scrubs and frequent use of preservative-free rewetting drops. Least invasive first. Save the steroid drops for later if necessary.

Also, laser helped me. I had VBeams and they definitely helped my flushing/burning. I'm not sure if that's what you have but from all the info I've read it seems to help with many problems.

Hang in there and don't freak out. Remain calm and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Best wishes,
Melissa

Thanks Melissa, yes I have burning sensations and it happens everyday it seems. No redness really, just burning sensation. I don't know if I can get antibiotics, every Dr. I see says, why go on them, you cannot be on them forever. Then they say, you are not even bad or could even tell you have it, blah, blah, blah, same story. So I have been taking oregano oil because they say that is a good antibiotic remedy, so started that up again. I am going to call his office tomorrow and decline the steroid RX he gave me and ask for antibiotics, we will see how that goes.

When he was checking my eyes he said, I do not think occular rosacea is your problem, blepheritis(spelling, sorry) is.
Dave,

Thanks for the tips on eyelid scrubs and oil, I am going to go get some..

Thanks for listening everyone..Jenn

Jenn,

Also, flaxseed may help with your ocular symptoms.

And neem has antibiotic effects as well as oregano.

Yes I am taking flax seed with borage and something else combined, it is a omega 3-6-9 combo. I didn't know about neem, I will check into that. Thanks so much..Jenn

I would not listen to anything more of what that doctor has to say about rosacea. As for the laser, i have only had IPL's done but those helped me a lot even though the shit comes back after a couple of months.

Went back to eye Dr. and I told him that I would not use steroid drops, so he gave me a RX for antibiotics..yayyyy..It is a topical though. He said lets try this first with the lid scrubs and see how that goes. I ran home and put some on because my eyes were bothering me since last night. I was outside painting all day yesterday and even though the sun was not on me my eyelids were all red and right below my eyebrow. I told the eye Dr. this today and he says to me, "ahhhh, allergies." I said, "ahhhhh, NO!" LOL..I said to him I have rosacea. Allergies are itchy, runny eyes and it does not make your skin right below your eyebrow turn red and burn. He said, well sometimes they can. I was like whatever. Anyway I got my meds and hopefully this will work, if not I will try oral antibiotics. Jenn
