I was wondering if someone from England could help me out with a childrens' game that my grandmother [who was from England] used to play with me when I was a child. It was a game that had a rhyme with it and the only part I can remember is "the wolfes gone to Devonshire, won't be back for forty years..." thats all I've got. I know this is kind of silly, but if this sounds familiar to anyone, let me know!! No one in my family remembers, so if anyone can help that would be great!!

I have to say that I have never heard of the rhyme you are talking about. Perhaps it was a local thing?

The game is the "sheep, sheep " game. Could be regional, but I'm sure it is an old timer, since Nanny came over to the U.S. in around 1917 or 18. Anyway I'm thrilled to know it all again!
