View Full Version : does your diet make your face look like it has gained 20lbs?

I have rosacea and have noticed I have residual swelling after a flare. Recently, I have noticed if I eat stosgey foods, for example last night I had two scones with cream and jam and a hot chocolate with marshmellows as a treat! today my face just looks fat. Not flaring I it just looks more musculine (I'm femail!) and my features look coarser, like I have gained weight. I don't think the food contained much sodium but obviously it would have had a whopping ammount of sugar (event he cream was sweetened! and the large scones were pure white flour, butter and sugar).

My non-rosacean friends think I'm being hyper critical. We didn't have any alcohol last night but think I have had more of a bad face day as a result of the food. Others say they don't notice it bt someone took a photo on a digital camera today and I look moon faced compared to my friends...

Has anyone else experienced this? do you think it's all in my imagination?

Well, I don't know if it's all in your imagination or not, without a supporting before and after photo. When your health issues present themselves on your face, it's kinda hard to ignore. We all know our own faces the best.

My face used to swell up and it was worse than the p&p's. You can't cover swelling with makeup. I hated swelling. Blah!

I might suggest that foods such as sugar and flour may create a flare and perhaps swelling to follow. If you can try to avoid these foods for a while, then try them again, take note if it makes a difference. It's all trial and error really.

Best of luck.

My face definitely swells every now and then. Sometimes while I flush and sometimes for no obvious reason.

I swell at times even when I don't have a flare up. I'll notice it the next day after going on a sugar binge. Take note: Sugar and salt will cause swelling/inflamation. Stay away from table sugar/snacks/white flour for a day or two and you will see a change.

Hello
Most definitely my face puffs out after a flush and looks more masculine. I find that following this diet helps: http://www.zipworld.com.au/~ataraxy/Salicylates_list.html. You might also want to look into quercetin/bromelain (check out the thread on that) and oil pulling. All three have helped me with this symptom.

I also wondering if sugar had a link with my swealling because this last 2 months I have ate quite a lot of nutela, chocolate and sugar..and I flush much more and have swealling with...I will try to avoid as much as I can even if I am fond of all of this!!
it's a shame because my face is quite good-looking but because of swealling ,I look like a fat guyblush:

Hi Quetahi:

I have been reading your posts in various threads regarding the diet change based on the Salicylate value of certain foods. I am not about to embark on any extreme diets or anything, I am basically trying to find some vegetables I can eat without putting my whole system into ructures at the moment and have found this list that you posted beneficial, its intesresting that the ones with the higher salicylate value are also some of the 'gassier' fruit and veg, which I definately need to avoid at the moment.

Can I ask that before you embarked on this change along with the supplements, did you have stomach and digestive issues as well and any other skin problems other than the face?

Kind regards,
Allibear

Hi Allibear
I think I did have digestive issues, but to be honest with you I never went to the doc about it or anything. I do seem to be very sensitive to certain foods and did have rashes, etc in other areas of the body. I have been on this diet for years and years, long before the addition of the supplements. The supplements just improved my condition further.
Cheers,
