I know this is going to be a stupid question. But what is the difference in red light therapy bulbs and an ordinary red light bulb?

Also do doctors ever prescribe red light therapy?

Thanks,

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Its the wavelength that matters. So it can be incandescent, flourescent, halogen or LED as long as it's the right wavelength. When we discuss Red Light Therapy we are referring to the 660nm (red) wavelength. Other wavelengths have been mentioned as well.

Here is a link referring to a physician who uses LLLT:

I wouldn't reccomend going out and buying a red "ordinary" light bulb. They kick off a lot of heat, and its just basically a lightbulb with a red coating over the exterior of it. They also give me one heck of a headache and make me slightly nausious. I found this out one Christmas whan I thought it would be festive to put red lights in my lamps, never again.

Thanks Twinkle and Laura,

I am really interested in giving the light therapy a try. I just don't want to spend a lot of money on something that may not help me.

My husband is an electrician so maybe he make something for me.

Take care,

Bonnie

You many also want to check out heelspurs.com, he's got the best prices I've seen yet -- apart from building your own.
