Hi everyone,
I am so sorry to disturb you again with the same question but I feel quite at the end of my rope.
I have been trying to locate a derm in the NYC area who has the Gemini Nd yag 1064 laser for flushing/burning treatments.
I have been unsuccessful. It has been like looking for a needle in a haystack. I went to laserscope.com (makes the Gemini ) and called all the derms on the list. No one had it or does that procedure.
I don't know what else to do.
I just had PDL with Dr. Linda Franks in Gramercy Park which was the wrong laser for my problem. I need about 6-8 weeks to heal before I can have the Gemini Nd yag 1064 but I still haven't located a doc yet. And usually it takes a couple of months to get an appt anyway.
Sorry for the long post.
Can anyone help?
Thanks so much for your time,
Melissa

Thanks Anthony,
I did call his office a few weeks ago and he doesn't have the Gemini.
Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate it.
I think I have cooled off a bit on my desperate search for the laser.
I plan on going for another consult in about a month with another laser doc but I am not getting my hopes up again.
I'll keep everyone posted good or bad.
Thanks again Anthony!
Best wishes,
Melissa

Hi
If you want treatment with a Yag 1064nm laser the Gemini is not the only option, it's just a brand name rather than a specific type of laser. Gemini is a combination platform that has contains two seperate lasers, a 1064nm yag laser and a KTP 532mn laser.
Both these lasers also come seperately. So some other brands of Yag 1064nm to look out for are Lyra and Cynergy, and similarly there are a range of machiene which offer KTP 532mn. So hopefully that makes it a bit easier for you to find.
There's some good info on it all here: (this is also in the further reading and intresting links section of the forum).

Hi Kate,
Thanks for the info.
I realize that there are more options out there than just the Gemini. It's just after speaking with Dr. Crouch that I became convinced that was the best option for me.
Of course, I may have no choice and need to go another way. I appreciate your help and will let you know what I end up doing. Right now I am just enjoying a short break from all this major decision making. It is so exhausting. Plus, I have a new ailment; diagnosed first by Sarah and then confirmed by a dermatologist on Friday. Chillblains. Sort of rare in the states but leave it to me to be unique! My fingers are ulcerating and just getting worse. If they don't start improving soon the doctor wants to put me on calcium channel blockers. Which will make my rosacea worse because that is a vasodilator. But the derm said we may have no choice since my fingers are so bad.
Well at least the Chillblins has gotten me off obsessing about my flushing and burning for a while!
You have to laugh
Life is full of ups and downs and is certainly never boring!
Thanks for your concern.
All the best,
Melissa

Oh Melissa that's really bad luck.
Sound very painful, I hope they heal up quickly. Let us know how you go.
Life is never boring is it? Bloody annoying sometimes but not boring  .

Thanks for your good wishes Kate.
I'll certainly keep everyone posted.
I am supposed to go to my mom's rheumatologist tomorrow because of the raynauds and my blistering fingers (not sure if this is the right specialist but my mom has a lot of faith in him and he can refer me to the right dr in any case).
I'm just nervous because I am once again missing work and hope they don't get fed up and get rid of me. But I am more concerned with getting to the bottom of this so there it is.
Best wishes,
Melissa

A rheumatologist does sound like the right person, i know when my Raynauds got really bad that was who i was going to have to see but luckily for me it was just a case of stopping betablockers and clonidine. If you mum knows he is a good doctor that that really does count for a lot too.
I know what you mean about work, i've gone down to four days a week because at the moment i almost need a day a week just for medical appointments! I'm really lucky that i have an understanding boss. Like you said your health really is the most important thing, it's so hard to concentrate on work anyway when your worried about what's wrong.

Hi Kate,
Well it just goes from frustrating to even more frustrating.
I took off from work today to go to my mom's rheumatologist and guess what? He had a family emergency so my visit was canceled. So I took off for no reason. Can you believe it?
Of course, I am not going to beat myself up about it. These things happen and it just goes to show that everyone has stuff to deal with. If the rheumatologist didn't come in today (and won't be in for the rest of the week) who knows what sort of drama he's dealing with.
Some good news finally. My blood results from Friday are back already and the derm said they were normal!! YAY!! That is the hugest relief. I can deal with anything that is not fatal. So I feel much better emotionally even though the day did not shape up the way I had hoped it would.
Thanks for your good wishes.
All the best,
Melissa

That's great news about your blood test.
I know how frustrating waiting to see speacilists can be, i've been waiting for ever to see the top neurologist here. I had waited 3 months but had to have an ugent gastroscopy, of course, the only time they had was the exact date and time of my appointment, so i've now been waiting nearly 6 months!
Hopefully you don't have too long to wait until you see him!

Oh, I'm so sorry Kate. That is unbelievable!
You needed an urgent procedure and you still had to wait so long??
There is something wrong with the health care system. Everywhere!
what is a gastroscopy?
All the best,

Sorry that was a bit confusing, i got the gastroscopy (where they put a camera down the throat- i ulcerated my oeophagus with doxry) straight away, well the next day, it was just bad luck that they only time they could do it was the exact same day and time as the neurologists appointment i'd made three months prior. I just thought it was a perfect case of murphys law!
We have pretty good health care here but the waiting time for the really top specialists is around three months or more. I use to work in medical complaints though so am happy to wait and see a really good speacilist rather than get in sooner with a not so good doc...i've just read way to many horror stories!

absolutely.
I'd rather wait to see a really good specialist than get treated by a doc whose skill and experience may not be as good!
I'm in the health field so I know horror stories also; though I'm sure almost everyone knows a couple of medical horror stories. All you need is to watch the news and you are flooded with them!
All the best,
Melissa
