Yup, I'm Goldie Locks. :D
Seriously, I'm worried about Bambi. We've been in a brutal freeze and blasting snow storm -- we just got electricity back up after almost two days! (Of course my GenSet is scheduled to be installed NEXT week!) I've lost all my Rosemary for sure and I think the lavendar may not have made it either.

Twickle, That snow is amazing! You look adorable all bundled up. What a cute blue house in the snow...and a cute dog. We used to have a woodburning stove and used it a few times when the power went out. Nice feeling to be self-sufficient. Freezing cold causes my rosacea to flare, so a cold, cold house is difficult for me. You look to be weathering the storm well, though!

Thanks Artist. We look upon this as an adventure! We ran away from Alberta because of the frigid winters. This is supposed to be a meditteranean microclimate! We had converted our stone fireplace to gas with a log set. It looks pretty good, almost like the real thing, but no allergy. Of course it doesn't heat worth a damn though. The 30kw generator that we are having put in permanently is so that we are self sufficient. Any big winds (we get those alot) will bring down the big trees and this was the motivation behind it. It will be large enough to run the whole house, even the washer and dryer. This weather took us by surprise. Mother Nature is so hard to plan around sometimes!
My little dog is very cherished. His comfort is a top priority, so we're having a lot of snuggle time right now. And if I don't have beans and weiners again for a good long time it will be too soon!
Cheers!

He plays only original compositions. I can tell his mood by what he's playing. You know I got used to his musicality years ago and now it's just background sounds to our life. Everyone once in a while though he can pull me out of something I'm doing with what he's playing. I'll be reading or busy in a different part of the house and I just stop and listen. He's very good. I told you all the things he plays didn't I? He's a bonafide artsy fellow. He plays the shakuhachi, guitar, and piano, as well he's a talented painter and an amazing illustrator. Of course, I was much better looking when we met. :D Our son is also musical but of a completely different genre. He looks like the drummer from Green Day, and he lives and breathes Metallica. His instrument of choice is guitar, but he can play piano by ear. He's taken Metallica tribute bands home and to show them how it's done. Unfortunately Master of Puppets is now permanently imprinted in my brain. We are ever so thankful he didn't pursue the band lifestyle.
I am completely nonmusical and would give you nightmares if I played anything.

Piano is a very demanding instrument, and physically among the most challenging. The literature is just insane! Some of it you'll wonder how it is even possible with just two hands.
Fortunately, there is a wide range of immensely beautiful music that is accessible to beginners. So hey, why not give it a go? Id be happy to give you a few tips, atleast interms of playing classically.

Silenced as we speak.
Had a great night out tonight. I play the Cornet/Flugel Horn/Tenor Horn and used to dabble on the piano (amongst other instruments) when I was younger. I hope to buy a real piano one day....just need to get the extentions happening on the house, after the renovations are finished! For now, it's the Clavinova which does me well. The kids love the idea of 'plugging' a book in and pretending to play. They are not as keen on Mum playing real music...boring Mum! LOL Especially my favourite..."Moonlight Sonata".
Tonight, after the festival parade, the band went out to a mine site for a barbie and a jam session. I didn't bring my instruments but we all swapped around anyway. Brilliant, absolutely fabulous feel good night! From jazz, to classical...Christmas carols to hymns. All good!

Hey, what I did notice though was that everyone was cold. I mean, it was night time out near the desert and even though it is Summer here, the nights can get cold sometimes. Tonight was one of those nights. Most were rugged up but I didn't feel the cold. I was wearing a LBD (little black dress) and friends kept asking me if I wanted a jumper. Kind of makes me get back to the theory of the thermoregulatory system. We have hot faces, cold hands and feet (Raynauds)...and so on. Mmm!

Jen,
Thermoregulation is a common problem for people with our particular problem. How many times do you hear people say that:
- They have cold hands and feet but hot faces
- Flush to both warm and cold conditions
- Symptoms seem to clear up when the temperature steadies during the summer
Those apply to me, and then some! Indeed, my symptoms improve immensely in the summer, but deteriorate dramatically in the winter. There is like a balance, and when it tips so far, my hands suddenly become cold and my face flushes way more easily.
Perhaps we should all move to an equatorial island? Nice and warm, good moist atmosphere, no seasons... it should be rosacean paradise!

I have cold thighs (the top) all year, they feel quite chilled. I always have a lap blanket, even in the height of summer. That island sounds nice, as cold as it is here right now in the US, (midwest,) just had a nice big mess of a snowstorm come through too. But I would miss my seasons changing! I love the fall, the colors, the smell of leaves and the crunch when you walk on them. And spring, when everything comes back to life agaain, Ok I'm rambling now.
And count me in with the lap blanket crowd, Im under mine now, its actually a big red fuzzy robe thats too big for me to wear, but works just fine as a blanket. :)

We are starting to thaw, not as quickly as forecast unfortunately. Darn weather office keeps teasing us. It's Trader Joe's brand. "Trader Joe's Specialty Teas White Tea" is on the front. We live downtown and have a Trader Joe's just one block away. I have one of those dorky little shopping carts on wheels. I wheel it over there several times a week and fill my cart. I look especially silly being 8 months pregnant while wheeling my little cart around downtown. he he he!
The instructions say to let boiling water cool for 5-7 minutes before adding the tea bag, but I just plop one small ice cube in so I don't have to wait. For some reason it's supposed to brew below the boiling point. After I steep the bag for about 2 minutes, I discard the bag and add a few more ice cubes so it's just warm.

LOL! I have a mental image of Artist as a hausfrau!
One of my homes was downtown back in Edmonton, it was in a little historic enclave that didn't seem like downtown at all. It was a bit creepy going up the hill to the city centre on the weekends -- it was completely abandoned! Picture a movie set, complete with newspaper tumbling in the breeze down an empty street, tall buildings as far as the eye can see and not a soul around. We would ride our motorbikes through all the streets, and maybe pass one vehicle. A lot of condo/conversions have since gone up so it's much more of an urban centre now.
I read that about not boiling the water too... the tea being very delicate and all that. I've bought a few different whites off the Stash site, because I didn't know which was best, or which I'd prefer. Eventually, if I don't flush, they'll all go down the same hatch.
Thanks again for the great tip Artist. I'm pretty excited about this. I've been missing out on the good green tea benefits and if I can tolerate this I will forgo coffee -- except on weekends as a treat, I like treats. :D
Artist
5th December 2006, 10:19 PM
Waaaa sounds fun! I bet you could have bought something there and done very well with it.
I still drink coffee. I love it! Being pregnant I mostly drink decaf, but I like it for the taste more than anything.
Let us know if you are able to drink white tea. I can, so I think it's the fermentation of regular tea that gets me. If it's not the fermentation of the tea, I suppose it could be the theobromine and theophylline - but they are in very small amounts, so it seems doubtful.
An interesting tidbit is that theobromine is found in huge amounts in chocolate. It's a smoothe muscle relaxer/vasodilator. Maybe that's the culprit there. White chocolate doesn't have any of this substance.
I suppose if the white tea doesn't agree you could include it with your tea pot gifts!
Cheers!

Ya, that's the last abode. The backyard was the Straight of Georgia actually. We looked over to Vancouver Island, 20+ km away, exactly to the spot we live now. It's kinda of a neat coincidence. I hated living on the water though, it was always windy and at night it was very very very dark and that was freaky. And we had bears. Now I have golfers, they are not scary -- only annoying. :?
