Hi all,
Here are a few pics of my rosacea, the redness is permanent, but not very bumpy. I do flush now and then but just on the cheeks really. I do have oscular problems as well.

I've had rosacea for a couple of years and just use metrogel. I am booked in to see dr crouch to talk about possible IPL next month.
here is a pic of me before any rosacea... with my first baby (4 years ago.)

Hi moomy,
You're lovely. You look so young in your pics that when I saw the photo with your little one I was surprised!
I clearly see the redness and the eye involvement. My heart goes out to you. I use Metrocream and found that it helps the flushing and redness too, and Systane eye drops. But I'm getting restasis drops compounded (you can't buy it yet is Canada, I have no idea why) -- it's supposed to help with my eye discomfort. My astigmatism changes a lot because of my dry eyes so my eye glasses don't always work the way they should which makes work and reading a challenge some days. Something to keep in mind if you wear specs.
I find that the goggles I need for the near-infrared bother my eyes. So I like using the red only most of the time because I don't need goggles for that and I get a bit of eye relief. I have a very large unit for full head, but have found that my light weight hand helds from the LEDMAN (same as Elixa) have proven more convenient and just as effective.
Best of luck moomy!

The light therapy helps with the fine wrinkles.... something to keep in mind in about 5 years or so.
If I were to hazard a guess, since you are not affected by P+P, I would say Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea with Ocular involvement (which is very common).
From what I have read here, Dr. Crouch is the right man to see. He is very knowledgeable and sincerely helpful. Please let us know what he says.

Your ears seem largely unaffected.
I tend to think this is a good sign as it suggests - to my rather simple way of thinking - that your condition is not so potent at to overwhelm the entirety of your facial vasculature. There are perhaps many exceptions to this rule, but still.
Your rosacea hasn't been around for too long, you are getting some good advice here, you are off to see Dr Crouch, Christmas is coming...
It's all good.

thanks for your positive notes,
I am feeling quite positive at the moment, I actually feel my condition is improving a bit since I started on suppliments suggested in the forum.
My ears, nose and forehead are all fine... worry a bit that it may spread??? perhaps red lights and ipl will help.
Do people with ear involvement tend to get that early on???
thanks

Mine started with cheeks, then neck, then forehead and nose. Somewhere along the way my upper chest and forearms got red and P+P, that's not usual, but it is heard of. My ears inflammed when my rosacea hit its peak. They became enlarged and flattened out, like big fake red ears stuck on my head, and were overly sensitive. The lightest touch sent shockwaves of pain. Didn't know ears had so many bloody nerve endings before. They calmed down with the rest of my face once treatment began.
Ears are an issue for some folks, here's a recent thread on the subject:

Hello, I'll be interested in hearing how you get on with the red light treatment. I also see Dr Crouch, my next visit is in two weeks, and I'm sure you will find him very helpful.
Your skin seems fairly similar to me, I don't get any real papules to speak of but the red area constantly feels rough.

Yes I've had 3 (I think) and so far so good. Treatments have always been fairly straight forward, however my skins reaction to those treatments have always been unpredictable.
IPL didn't suit my skin and resulted in abit of a seb derm flair. This meant that since then Dr Crouch has used the lasers instead, something which my skin tolerates better. I will hopefully have a few more treatments (money allowing) and then will wait and see.
Best wishes

Hey moomy,
I think so, yes. My skin and rosacea look very similar to your own, but I sometimes flush on the ears aswell. Its been that way aslong as I can remember flushing and not something that came on later.
Im not expert, but I think you SHOULD be ok. I havent heard much about rosacea zones spreading over time. Perhaps I am wrong though so please dont take that as gospel.
All the best,

You know, I would ALWAYS request a test patch first when going for IPL / laser treatments. Im amazed that some have been told they dont need one, thats just crazy.
Better to be safe than sorry!

Hi Bob bear,
thanks for your messages.
I am booked in for a patch test with dr crouch so that is fine.
About the spreading of rosacea to new areas?? I thought that was what progression of the disease was??? I don't know much about it though so I'm not sure.
Has your rosacea not spread to new areas??
best wishes

Mine has not really spread just intensified in the areas where it always was. I always suffered red ears and red cheeks, although my nose may or may not have joined in later.

It hasnt no. Im not sure if rosacea can 'spread', so to speak, rather it seems to intensify in the exsisting areas.
I may be wrong, but thats how its been with me.

Ofcourse, it is possible that some areas may have more advanced damage than others. In this case, if a previously mild area suddenly deteriorated, then it might appears as if the rosacea had spread.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad tidings but rosacea has defintely spread in my case.
Started out on my nose and is now prospering over my entire face and neck, it's even venturing to my chest. :)
However i wouldn't get too worried i think my case is quite rare.

Hi Spav,
sorry to hear about your spreading. how quickly has this happened??

Well it probably took about a year and half for most the spreading to occur. It was quite depressing and frightening waking up every morning not knowing what your gonna see in the mirror.
I've had rosacea for about 4 1/2 years and spreading in the last three have been minimal. However the effected areas do still get worse.
Whether the spreading has slowed down because of my life style changes and treatments i've tried or not i can't say. It may never spread it certaintly hasn't seemed to in my dads case. But i don;t think you can take it for granted so i'd definitely advise still trying to protect your rosacea free skin from triggers like the sun.

Hi Spav,
I know what you mean about it being frightening to look in the mirror. I dred that morning mirror check. And sometimes when I'm out I think I look ok then catch sight of myself in a mirror and am shocked by how red I am.
What treatments are you trying??

Have been trying white tea (clipper brand) and have to say that since drinking for the last few days my skin has really calmed down. May be coincidence but I can't think what else it could be. Tastes very nice as well. Typical though about the redness fading as I'm off to Dr C's tomorrow.

Thanks Phlika,
That's interesting about the tea, is that thought to be better than green tea?? Is it from a health food shop.
hope it goes well with dr c. are you having a tx??

Yes the antioxidnets are meant to be more potent. I'm sure I read that here recently in a thread. I bought mine from the supermarket. It was clippers white tea with blackcurrent. When you do it you add freshly boiled water not boiling water.
Yes having Nd:Yag and the KTP with Dr C tomorrow (all being well).
