View Full Version : Pre-rosacea?

I'm just under 19 years old and I am somewhat convinced I have some form of mild/pre-rosacea. I'm not exactly losing sleep over it, but it is another one of those annoyances (since teenaged acne, crooked teeth and chubbiness) that not much other people with whom I'm surrounded have to deal with.

I'd like to point out that my camera is low definition, so you can't really see it in detail.

This was after I had just got home from school (a 20 minute walk uphill in the heat), a couple of years ago.

I have telangectasia on my nose which you cannot make out in the pics. My father is 50 and has the worst case of telangectasia of anyone I know - which is strange, because his parents don't have it too bad for their age. Both my parents are fairly fair skinned and it looks as though I'll end up walking into a worse case of rosacea when approaching their age, which I'm not too happy about.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi SomeDude

You are right...it is hard to tell from the pics. You are a good looking young bloke and I do hope it's not onset of Rosacea!

I can't see any Acne symptoms from your past, so that is fabulous. I also see that you no longer have a "chubbiness" thing happening, so well done with that. As far as crooked teeth go, well that is just character, so I wouldn't worry about that. I too have crooked teeth but it's just me. That is...it is who I am.

You say your Father has the spider veins but is it on his nose or over his cheeks too? Just interested to know, as I do believe there is a genetic link with Rosacea.

If you are able to post some clearer pics, in better natural lighting, it might make it easier to offer our opinions. From the pics you have posted, I don't see Rosacea. Not to say you don't have it (I hope you don't) but it's hard to tell.

If you think you are going to be prone to rosacea I would advise that you take some precautions. My brother has simialr skin to me does not have roscacea and neither does my dad, although he does have really bad broken veins.

I would advise that you:

protect your skin from the sun.
Don't use any harsh creams-steroids, acne treatemnts
Take protective supplements-grape seed extract, pygenol
Don't rub skin harshly or wash in hot water.
Don't use exfoliators
Don't put lots of creams or lotions on your skin
Eat a healthy diet, with lots of water
If you are flushing ask your doctor to prescribe something like propanerol/clonidine/moxonidine (if you want to go this route).
If alcohol makes you flush limit consumption, if exercise makes you flush perhaps think about changing to a low impact one instead or do it in front of fans, etc.

For what it's worth you don't look like you have a problem with your skin, you look like thousands of other people who have some colour in their face. But you are a real cutie :)

I honestly wouldn't worry about having a real bad case of Rosacea when you are your parents age because I'm guessing that will be a long time from now. I'm sure by that time (+-25 years ) there will be all sorts of therapies, if not a cure. I'm just saying that its a long time till then and don't worry about it but do take precautions hough for the immeadiate future. I agree with that Phlika suggested.

You know, without wishing to be insensitive...

Im constantly amazed at how many people post photos on this site with absolutely NO visible signs of rosacea at all. Im amazed these guys even know what rosacea is??? I had been having intense flushes for several years before I ever came across the word rosacea. And that purely through coincidence.

Sorry, rant not directed at you 'somedude'.

Mate, I have to say that I see no sign of rosacea at all in your photos. Maybe the symptoms are not easily visible so perhaps a larger photo might be appropriate?

But from what I see, Id be happy to give you the all clear... if I were a doctor and licensed to that is!

All the best, and hope you never have the joy of rosacea to content with.
