Hi. I've been reading posts on this forum for the past couple of months. I've decided to go ahead and try RLT. I received instructions from IowaDave; and my husband is constructing the unit. I've been using various treatments for rosacea for the past 5 years or so and it has been pretty well controlled. Lately I've noticed some increased flushing and sensitivity to products that have previously worked (possibly due to recent laser tx). I'm hopeful that this RLT will help. I'll post on my progress once I get started.
How close should the unit be to my face when first trying the red lights. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi Krisco,
Welcome to the forum! :D
Congratulations on taking the leap (of faith some would say). I believe that you won't be disappointed! I hope you will keep us posted on your progress. And, pictures are great if you comfortable with that.
I have my big unit about an inch away and sometimes it touches. I hold my handheld right on my skin. Maybe when you are just starting you should have a bit of distance, maybe 6 inches, to see how you react and feel comfortable with it. RedHotOz uses the same set-up that you are building, and her or IowaDavid should be able to give you some good pointers with that particular device. I've got a pic posted on my Dimalux thread that shows my unit in action so you get an idea of proximity.

Hi Krisco
Welcome to the Forum.
When I first started out, I had my array about 15-20cms away from my face. I use it at about 10cms away from my face now, which feels like the right distance for me.
Would love to see some pics when yours is finished. Mine is now mounted above my bed (is there a joke there somewhere? LOL) and this has make it very easy to use. I've posted some pics of it in the Photo area.
I look forward to hearing what you think of it.

The unit is not completely ready (2 of 3 of the 6x8 panels are complete). We have it up and running with just the 2 panels. I've been gradually increasing time up to 10 minutes. So far it seems to help with the redness and flushing. I do have to say, however, I'm on week 4 post laser treatment and I may be also feeling the effects of that as well. Either way, it seems to have a "calming" effect. I defiinitely plan to continue with it.
When the unit is complete with the 3 panels, I'll post pictures. My husband rigged it to a large light stand which lowers/raises and rotates so that I can use it sitting or lying. He also wired an on/off switch up near the panels. Pretty handy huh?
Thanks for the responses and I'll keep you posted on progress.

That's terrific that you are feeling a difference with this. Your set-up sounds great! I can't wait to see it. I know there are other folks here who are in the process of making units which are flexible. So yours may provide some inspiration for them as well.
All this innovation -- on a Rosacea forum, how cool is that!?!

Hello TP
Good to see people trying out lamps especially the home built ones and reporting back that they are seeing benefits. If you are talking about innovation then I think David needs some credit for having built his own and then giving others the benefit of his expertise.
Certainly for the three of us who have pushed RLT for several years to see so much information available now on this Forum and people genuinely interested is very encouraging. My only concern is that for a newcomer they can be slightly bewildered by the number of different types and models available and not sure which one would be the best one to try. Given that buying a lamp is for some people a large investment then they want to be sure they get the best one first up.
I received a PM yesterday from a genuine person who wanted my opinion on RLT and what I felt was the right one for them. I have received many messages in the past and freely given out my advice and experiences but given what has happened recently I no longer feel comfortable doing this. Better I think to refer them to the archives so they can carry out their own research and if necessary post on the Forum for help so there can be no apparant favouritism to one product.
Another idea I had was whether it might be possible for someone to put up a list of all the lamps available out there with say – Model, Manufacturer, Price, Contact details etc, marks out of 10, which member(s) were using it and their comments. Just a thought but it might help others with their decision.
Best wishes
Peter

Anyone interested, please also read through the LED choices thread.
There's a whole bunch of info in there. Here's the link:

Krisco, lookin' forward to seeing your new set up. There's another lady who wants a flexible array and your incorporation of the light stand is brilliant!
