View Full Version : Pale after IPL?

Anyone else pale after IPL? Is this because of the cooling gel perhaps? I was wondering if this would affect the ability of the IPL to do its job at finding the vessels. The person who is doing mine has been treated by Bitter Jr. and Soldo and she says that the preflush is a dated technique. Any thoughts on this?

Paleness is normal, from my experience. I'm not sure why, though. After about a week you'll see the redness return, but at a diminished level.
Preflushing outdated? I'd like to hear an explanation as to why.

You are pale after IPL because the skin swallows will liquid and hides the redness. I notice the same paleness some mornings when I wake up and my face is swallen with liquid.
The redness or part of it will return after the skin de-puffs.
That effect makes many treated with IPL claim that the 'redness disappeared and then came back'.

That explains why I look like a freakin' cherry today! It's two weeks from my treatment (Gemini) and I thought the redness was changed, and much lessened and today POOF.

But you should still see less sensitivity and less of a red when flushing.
Even Dr Crouch told me that gemini wouldn't do alot for normal redness as the gemini goes pretty much right past it and through to the deeper flushing vessels.
For normal perm redness he thought his Lum1 ipl thingy was the best option.

That's sound about what my Derm said. He's going for the vessels first and then the diffuse redness afterwards. But I am still able to flush, I've posted a good flush I'm having today. The really positive thing though is that it's not really affecting my chest area just my face. This is progress!

Well that is interesting. I only remain pale for a couple hours, then back to normal..so that would lend itself more towards the swelling idea.
I am being treated with the Lumenis 1 for more or less permanant redness. She does a triple pass/triple pulse with the 640, then 590, then 560 (or close to that). I have had two treatments so far with no change really. Any suggestions or ideas?

Ideas? Yeah ditch it for vbeam or proper pulsed dye laser if you can get the time off. these worked so much better for me than ipl.
IPL had me pale for a while but then it came back and was ultra sensitive / flarish for a few weeks after the treatment.

Well, that is a really inappropriate response. Lets not debate vbeam vs. IPL. I am considering vbeam down the road, but for now I am doing IPL and thats all there is to it. It has worked for some, but not others...you cannot predict if it will for others just because of your experience.
Getting back to the point...I am doing IPL and lumenis 1, now is there anything I can do to maximize my chances of success.

Is she increasing the intensity with every treatment? If not, doing a third IPL at the same settings and intensity is not very probable to make a difference just like the previous two.

I *think* that is the only thing she is increasing. Is that good enough though? Or is that the way to go? So far I see absolutely no difference (cept for 2 hrs after IPL) after the first 2 treatments.

Generally they increase the intensity every time. They dont fudge around with the other settings cause they don't understand them anyways doesnt matter most of them were 'trained by Dr. Bitter'. It will depend how high intensity your skin can take without getting burned.
My skin couldn't take much and at that low intensity there was zero rezult so it was obvious IPL isn't for me. We will see what the laser will do.
