I have been lurking for a number of weeks and have found this site of some interest and help so I thought i'd just introduce myself.

I'm really not sure how long I've really had rosacea as I'be been a blusher/flusher for most of my life. However the flushing, burning and redness became constant this past March. It was a very stressful time in work and at home with very serious illnesses striking my mother-in-law and then my wife. At the same time I strayed from my gluten free diet (I'm gluten intolerant). It was a bit too coincidental that my stomach went "wonky" at the same time that the rosacea struck so I'm hoping fixing my diet fixes things up a bit. I beleive that my immune system was messed up by going off the gluten free diet.

My first symptoms were burning ears which then spread to my cheeks and then nose. I have had a few pustules here and there but they seem to clear rather quickly.

I seem to react badly to the sun and dry heat. Of course stress sets me off the most. Spicy foods only a bit.

Actually the flushing has lessened over the last few weeks and the length of the flush has dropped dramatically. That may be due to my return to a gluten free diet and the slow but sure recovery of my wife coupled with a the supplements I started taking.

My dermatologist has me on tetracylcine (250mg twice a day) coupled with metro cream. Sounds like a bit of standard first shot treatment to me so we'll see.

I have added a number of supplements to my diet. Some for the rosacea and some for my gluten intolerance. These include MSM, silymarin, flax seed oil, SOD, a multivitamin, garlic tablets and probiotics. I have also altered my diet to be more alkaline as I was a heavily acidic eater in the past.

After reading a number of posts here I am goping to try red light therapy and possibly other "cures". I imagine that the condition took a while to actually hit me so it may take a while to reverse, if that is at all possible, which I'm sure it is. Always think positive!

One last point to make. Forums such as this are quite helpful but you need to realize that most posts on health related forums are from those searching for answers not those that have found answers. That sometimes can make you feel as if there is no hope. There is always hope. I speak from experiene on this one. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor some seven years ago. I started hitting all the forums and web sites to look at my prognosis and what I should do. Most posts were from those that had bad outcomes from the treatment option they chose. It got a bit depressing. I had to do a lot of sifting to find the treatment option that was right for me. Anyway my brain tumor is dead, kaput, gone and I have no lasting negative impacts from my treatment.

Should I find something that works for me I will let you know.

Chins up everyone.

Alan

wow, that is really good to hear toy beat that. I try to think positive as well, like Jen said before something good is in the not too distant future. It seems as of lately, there have been quite a few medical advances with some forms of cancer and Alzhymers (sp).
