Hi, I am a 20 year old male that was just diagnosed about 2 months ago. It devistated me when I was told what I have and there is no cure. I went to the doctor after the first sign of redness on my cheek and then after a week with no improvement I was sent to a Dermatologist who diagnosed me and now I'm on anti-biotics and Metrogel cream. It seems that some people go years before being diagnosed and starting treamtnet, is it good that I started at the first signs? I have also read most people with the disorder don;t even know they have it? My mom has helped me through and says I should be hopeful. She says at least I didn't have it since birth and so on, and she is hopeful that within the next 5 years or so great advances in treatment or even a cure could be found. I have checked around and it seems like there are a number of tests and studies that are now being done on Rosacea and hopefully should yield useful results. It also seems there are some very dedicated people such as Dr. Nase, that are doing tremendous amounts to help with research/treatment/cure. Are other countries doing research on Rosacea as well? It would seem it would be only a matter of time with so many people working on it that something posative will happen. I'm glad I found this forum, sorry this is so long. Thanks

Welcome to the Forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Rosacea.

It is good that you have been diagnosed early. You are right in saying that many people go undiagnosed for years (myself included). Many regular GPs simply don't know much about Rosacea. So you are on the right track by joining this Forum.

There are lots of things that you can try for the control of your Rosacea. Antibiotics and Metro are the standard things given when first diagnosed. If you intend on taking antibiotics long term, do consider taking a probiotic as well, such as Acidophilus, so that you put the 'good' bacteria back into your body. Antibiotics not only kill off the bad bacteria, they also attack the good ones. Space the probiotic from the time you take the antibiotic though.

Metro is a topical antibiotic and it will really only help if you are consistent with the application on your face.

Personally, I've been down the path you are about to go down. I no longer take antibiotics or use medicated topicals. For me, there were too many negative side effects.

I am now on the natural healing path of diet and red light therapy. So far, so good and I am very happy that I made the decision to go natural.

Anyway, you have a lot of reading ahead of you and many choices to make as to what you want to try. What works for one person, may not work for another. There are many reasons for this. Rosacea can easily be mis-diagnosed or can also co-exist with other similar conditions. So, when something works for one person but not for you, that other person may have a slightly different thing going on than you. Well, that's my take on it anyway.

I'm not trying to scare you but just to let you know that the leg work is done by us Rosaceans in trying to find what works for us as individuals. We support and help each other in our research.

Dr Nase no longer posts on this Forum but has done so in the past. There is on-going research happening world wide but it takes time and money. I'm positive that something will come about in the not too distant future.

Good luck!

Jen

You're welcome and you are most definitely not alone!

Dr Nase said that he was setting up his own Forum for Rosacea but that hasn't happened to date.
