View Full Version : Which Treatment?

Hi,

I'm a 41yr old female and looking back have had episodes of rosacea since late teens. These are mostly brought on by stress and started with the ocular blepharitis when I had no idea about rosacea. About 6 years ago when I was depressed I had a flare which was treated successfully with Metrogel but my facial blood vessels have gotten to be more visible since then, and last year I had a bad ocular attack with no blepharitis but lots of pain and conjunctivitis. My eyes dried out so badly I had to see an Opthalmologist who had no idea what the cause was but at least gave me moisturising gel & ointment.

Fast forward to now, and since December I've had the odd pustule appearing and going away until a few weeks ago when it all got badly out of hand. My chin is now permanently red and inflammed, scaly skin with sometimes blisters and pustules and it is very unsightly indeed. My eyes are blood shot every morning and got very puffy ideed last week.
The GP won't now give me the Metrogel as I had a bad reaction to the tablets last year, so I started on Oxytetracycline 250mg x2 twice a day. The problem is that after only 4 days I have a terrible yeast infection which is very uncomfortable. So where do I go from here? It seems I have to take something but what?

Thanks in advance.

Hi JD,

I have Ocular Rosacea and persitant redness. I don't have pustules but as there aren't many people here right now I'll see if I can help. There is an exellent search engine here http://rosaceagroup.org/search.cgi?q=ocular+blepharitis+ this is good for finding similar symptoms to your own and what treatments people are using. Good searches might be Ocular blepharitis, Ocular Rosacea treatments, Pustules .etc You will find a lot of good information there.

Hopefully tomorrow people with your symptoms will have helped you much better then me. People are friendly here and willing to help. Just keep shouting and they will hear you. If not I'll shout with you.

All the best

Hi JayDee

Welcome to the Forum.

Sorry to hear that things have not been going so well. Hopefully the antibiotics will help to clear things up a little and reduce the inflammation. I stopped taking antibiotics because of the yeast infections and other negative side effects. Blah! I now eat according to the Candida Diet http://groups.yahoo.com/group/candidasupport/ and it has helped with both Candida (yeast infections) and Rosacea. I've spoken quite a bit about this diet on the Forum already. If it interests you, you can get the info from the Yahoo group or run a Forum search for more info.

Best of luck!

Thanks James & Jen. The search engine is good but it still hasn't answered a few questions. Maybe I'm odd. LOL

I have some blurriness of vision in my worse eye. I was beginning to think this was anxiety related but it lasts all day everyday :( Will anything change this?

I'm also wondering if the overall puffiness of my face is related to this. The whole shape of my face has changed over the past 10 years and it is quite moon shaped now. Is that rosacea too??

Hi JayDee

No, you're not odd! LOL There's a stack of info that has already been posted and it can be a tad overwhelming when trying to find what you specifically want through the Forum search engine.

The blurry vision could well be a symptom of Occular Rosacea. Stress/anxiety doestn't help it either. I'm not sure what to offer as a solution to this.

Mmm...I've never heard of the shape of anyone's face changing due to Rosacea. 10 years is a long time. What shape is the rest of your body after 10 years...pear shape? LOL I'm just being playful! Seriously though, your face can swell a great deal with Rosacea. Mine also used to throb. Thank goodness that doesn't happen anymore for me since going down the diet path.
